FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: June 8, 2015

KHSAA Assistant Commissioner Angela Brown Passafiume, a 1989 graduate of Assumption High School who has served as Assistant Commissioner with the Association since July of 2010, will return to Assumption this fall as its Athletic Director, as announced today in this joint release by the KHSAA and Assumption. Passafiume previously served as Athletic Director at Assumption from 2003 to 2010.

“We are thrilled to welcome Angela back to Assumption High School,” stated Assumption High School President Mary Lang. “Her commitment and dedication to interscholastic athletics is unparalleled. Angela brings with her an incredible wealth of experience and expertise to this role, as well as a passion for Assumption, and we are elated to have someone of Angela’s caliber to lead our Athletic Department.”

As Athletic Director at Assumption, Passafiume will oversee a full program of 15 varsity sports and work to maintain the integrity of the program while promoting the integral part that athletics plays in the educational program designed to allow each student the opportunity to learn the values of teamwork, respect, and self-discipline through competitive and noncompetitive sport.

“That is an important factor in her return, as over 75% of the girls who attend Assumption participate in an athletic activity through interscholastic or intramural sport,” said Lang.

“My years at the KHSAA have been fulfilling professionally. I have been mentored by the best in the business of high school sports. I am honored to have been a part of the most hardworking team and leaders in high school athletics throughout the nation. I cannot thank the Commissioner and the entire staff enough for their guidance in making me a better professional and a better person,” said Passafiume. “I have learned so much from all of the educators throughout the state and I am grateful for all of their friendships. With that said, it is time for me to move on, as my true passion is working daily with students. I am thankful to President Lang for the opportunity to once again be a part of the Assumption community.”

As Assistant Commissioner at the KHSAA, Passafiume was responsible for administering the licensing of officials across the 16 regions of the state and was the liaison to all regional policy boards and their contracted assigning secretaries. At various times throughout her tenure at the KHSAA, she had served as the rules interpreter for basketball and coordinated all aspects of track and field, cross country, field hockey and bowling.

“Angela leaves an indelible mark on our Association and its programs. She came to us at a time of activity and sport expansion and her passion, enthusiasm, professional skill and commitment to each program she became involved with have elevated each one. Her work within our Officials Division, with the regional policy boards and assigners, and with her assigned championships has been superb and her work ethic leaves those programs in great shape,” said KHSAA Commissioner Julian Tackett. “While she was invaluable in her service to the 74,000 students that participate in KHSAA offerings in Kentucky, I have a complete understanding of her desire to be more intimately involved on a daily basis with the 900 students at her alma mater. We wish Angela, her husband Donnie and their family nothing but the best and will proceed immediately with identifying suitable candidates to fill her position.”
