The first state championships of the 2015-16 season will be contested next week with the 2015 Leachman Buick•GMC•Cadillac/KHSAA Boys’ and Girls’ Golf Championships at the Bowling Green Country Club. The boys’ golf championship opens the week with a practice round on Monday, Oct. 5th and 18 holes of competition on both Tuesday, Oct. 6th and Wednesday, Oct. 7th. The girls’ championship begins with a practice round on Thursday, Oct. 8th, followed by first round action on Friday, Oct. 9th and the final round on Saturday, Oct. 10th.

A complete list of top qualifiers from the regional tournaments can be found on the golf homepage at KHSAA.org, which will have live scoring available throughout the competition.

On the boys’ side, St. Xavier and Owensboro Catholic’s John Augenstein will look to repeat as team and individual champion, respectively, at this year’s event. St. Xavier claimed the team title in 2014 with a 586 (293-293) team score, while Augenstein fired a six-under par 138 (69-69) to capture medalist honors.

Sacred Heart, meanwhile, enters the 2015 girls’ state tournament in search of its fifth-straight team title, having edged Henry Clay on the first playoff hole of last year’s event after the two schools shot matching 645 totals after 36 holes. Shelby County senior Madison Thomas claimed medalist honors at last year’s event with a five-under par 139 total (71-68).
