After fantastic feedback on the Cross Country Super Regionals and a great crowd and weather at the state Cross Country meet, we feel it is time to catch everyone up on what has been going on behind the scenes in regards to track regional sites.

Schools received a notice from the Commissioner after the last Board of Control meeting explaining possible regional dates and a waiver for possible competition after a regional (in case you missed it choose this link http://khsaa.org/111313-revision-in-track-and-field-season-2014-only/).  Additionally the Commissioner and I have spoken with many of you with regard to hosting multiple track regions at a like single site.  We recognize that not all of the pieces of the puzzle were fitting as nicely as they did for Cross Country and took a second look at host sites.

As you know, the KHSAA Commissioner is ultimately responsible for choosing all sports postseason sites, but we ask our schools for input and suggestions.  We still hold fast that the site rotation process by schools that had occurred in the past had many issues that became problematic for this office to sort out in many of our regions.  Because of this, we asked our officials to help us identify the schools who had adequate facilities and leaders at those schools with management skills to host the regionals.  We also recently asked schools “who wants to host?” and many of you answered by filling out the form GE72. Many schools replied by completing the GE72 with the proper signatures.  This form can be located on the website under forms.

This allowed us to look again at regional sites for 2014.  A new list of host schools for this springs regional meets has been complied and posted on the website (http://khsaa.org/track/siteselectionplan.pdf)

Please review this list careful as it has been update as of today (Nov. 21) with all host schools confirmed and the current track alignment.  You will see that there are now 18 sites for the 21 regionals.  We cannot thank the host schools enough for their cooperation and their willingness to volunteer their skills and facilities.

If your school is interested in hosting track or cross country in the future, please take the time to properly complete the GE72 form and send it to the KHSAA office at apassafiume@khsaa.org.
