03/25/13 – Clarification on Cold Weather Participation

Athletic Department Blog Updates

The office has received several calls from people asking about a “Cold Weather Index” to parallel the existing Heat Index rules and regulations. At the present time, such an index does not exist in terms of a policy to eliminate participation at certain temperature combinations. However, the NFHS Sports Medicine Committee, as part of its 4th edition Sports Medicine Handbook provided to the member schools, has set up best practices documentation and suggestions to dealing with extreme cold. The recommendations are posted on the KHSAA web site at /sportsmedicine/nfhs/coldweatherrecommendations.pdf Please feel free to use this valuable resource document. If you need additional copies of the Sports Medicine Handbook, contact Marilyn Mitchell (mmitchell@khsaa.org) at the KHSAA offices.

9/1/12 – Clarifications on Insurance for Bass Fishing

Bass Fishing Blog Updates

TO Whom It May Concern:
From: Mark Gintert, Student Angle Foundation

Concerning insurance coverage for our SAF anglers.
Here is my usual answer to schools around the country who also ask this question of us.

First here is a link to an Insurance FAQ sheet that will help most everyone. This can be found on our highschoolfishing.org web site under the downloads and forms section.
http://www.bassfederation.com/pdf/TBF%20insurance%20FAQs08.pdf

Coverage begins for our anglers and their club once they have completed their rosters and sent their $25 SAF member dues into the TBF. This can all be done electronically through our web site highschoolfishing.org.

They can continually add members to their roster at any time but the coverage begins when that base 6 member club roster and dues are received.

Our Insurance coverage is a three part coverage provided by K&K through our carrier. We insure over 20,000 events a year with them so they [...]

05/09/12 – Frequently Asked Questions – Bass Fishing Competition

Bass Fishing Blog Updates

KHSAA BASS FISHING
Frequently Asked Questions (as of March, 2014)

GENERAL INFORMATION

Is the KHSAA now sponsoring a Bass Fishing championship?

Yes, beginning in 2012-2013, the KHSAA began conducting a Bass Fishing championship. Competition will be held in a single division, with appropriate assignments to regions once participation numbers are determined.

With the KHSAA now sponsoring a Bass Fishing championship, does that make Bass Fishing exactly the same as all other sports and activities within the school?

The management of individual teams within a school is a local decision. School administrators will decide about issues such as compensation, travel allowances and other benefits in compliance with federal, state and locally adopted policies. Nothing about the KHSAA adding this sport activity makes anything “automatic” within a school or school district.

How is Bass Fishing going to be managed within the KHSAA?

The Commissioner will appoint an Assistant Commissioner to be the day-to-day liaison for Bass [...]

05/09/12 – Update on New Bass Fishing Championship

Bass Fishing Blog Updates

Ahoy Mates! Since the announcement in February that we were sponsoring a bass fishing championship, the questions have rolled in fast and furious. We have worked with the great folks at FLW, as well as very helpful reps of BASS Federation Nation and other groups to try and ensure that the championship is done in a manner that will stir excitement for all, ensure safety for all competitors, a participation opportunity for students, not effect those already participating in fishing activities, and promote an awareness of the great natural resources we have available. With that in mind, this is the first of a series of posts as we work toward implementation of our first championship in April of 2013. As more becomes available, we will post both here and online on our web site. Thanks!! KHSAA BASS FISHING
