July 31, 2012 Football Blog Updates

In the spring, I reported to you on the action taken relative to the split of Nelson County High School into two different schools (Nelson County and Thomas Nelson) relative to the football alignment.

Nothing has changed since that notice, and neither school was part of the issues related to the required second year review that the Board of Control did at its July meeting. However, even though nothing has changed, I wanted to be sure with all of the turnover in administrators and coaches, that all were aware of the situation.

Nelson County High School – WILL be in District 4 of Class 4A along with Doss, Fairdale, Moore, Valley and Western. For 2012 only, there was a draw done to determine which existing Nelson County games would count as district games, in order to keep schools from having to re-draw contacts, etc. The district games for 2012 will be September 7, 2012 at Bardstown, September 14, 2012 vs. Larue County, September 21, 2012 vs. North Bullitt, and October 19, 2012 vs. Central Hardin. For 2013 and 2014, they will be a full member of the district and all schools should schedule them as a district game using the standard district scheduling grid.

Thomas Nelson High School – At this time, Thomas Nelson has indicated that they WILL compete in district play. As such, they have been placed in District 2 of Class 2A along with Bardstown, Christian Academy-Louisville, DeSales, Fort Knox, Shawnee and Washington County. For 2012, they are NOT competing for the district title, however for 2013 and 2014, they will be a full member of the district and all schools should schedule them as a district game using the standard district scheduling grid.

This does not represent new information or a change, but based on inquiries the last couple of days, it seemed better to get this information out as a reminder.
