01/29/26 – Qualifying for the 2026 Indoor Track & Field Championships
PrintThe KHSAA office has received recent inquiries regarding the qualification for the 2026 Indoor Track & Field Championships. In an effort to assist member schools with compliance, we wanted to send out some clarification.
REQUIREMENT TO USE MILESPLIT
- As we have consistently reminded the member schools, any meets hosted by a KHSAA member school must use MileSplit for registration, enabling the instant upload of results for student-athletes.
- This is an important next step in ensuring competitive equity.
- As we have consistently reminded our schools, any member school with a documented and verified exclusive written legacy agreement with other platforms that have been submitted to the KHSAA, will need to sunset those agreements after the 2025-26 school year, following a two-year wind-down period.
IN-STATE MEETS
- If a meet is hosted in Kentucky, meet management shall provide online registration through the Milesplit platform.
- Only the meets in Kentucky that use the Milesplit registration will be used to qualify athletes for the postseason (seeding for outdoor track, indoor state qualifying, etc).
- If a member school is hosting a meet in Kentucky and does not utilize any platform for online registration (i.e Hytek files), the meet manager shall follow the steps outlined below for adding the meet to the Milesplit calendar and uploading final results.
OUT-OF-STATE MEETS
- If attending an out-of-state meet not using Milesplit registration, it is the responsibility of the head coach to ensure the meet details are on the Kentucky Milesplit calendar PRIOR to the meet (see below).
ENSURING MEETS ARE ON THE MILESPLIT CALENDAR
- It is the responsibility of the head coach to ensure the meet details are on the Kentucky Milesplit calendar PRIOR to attending the meet.
- KHSAA member school coaches can contact kymilesplit@gmail.com with the meet details (including date/location).
- Once it is on the calendar, it provides a place for the results to be uploaded instantly.
- The head coach shall ensure that the meet host posts the results to the Kentucky Milesplit calendar within 48 hours of the meet’s conclusion.
- Any meet uploaded after that time will not be eligible for seeding and performance times/marks.
- Any unattached, unaffiliated, or non-varsity meets would not be counted, as they are not considered school performances under Bylaw 23.
ENTERING ATHLETES TO BE CONSIDERED FOR QUALIFICATION
- The KHSAA office will release a top-50 performance list twice during the season.
- The deadline for any qualifying performances to be on Milesplit to be considered for the indoor state meet will be February 22nd at 9:00 PM ET.
- After the February 22 deadline, the KHSAA will release a final top-50 performance list, and coaches of ALL athlete(s)/relay teams listed in the top 50 performances must enter the meet via Milesplit to be considered for qualification.
- If a school has more than two (2) athletes in the top 50 of an individual event, that school/coach must choose which two to enter (which could allow athletes outside the top 24 to move into the top 50).
- This is why ALL athletes in the top 50 should enter to possibly qualify.
- After the deadline, the official top 24 performances per event for those entered by schools will be determined as entries for the state meet.
- There is a limit of two (2) entries per school in each individual event and one (1) entry per relay event.
- *Coaches must use a seed time from a Varsity-level meet while representing the member school (non-varsity or unattached results will not qualify).
2026 INDOOR TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS
- The KHSAA Indoor Track & Field Championships presented by UK HealthCare is set for March 3-5, 2026, at the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center, Louisville.
- A comprehensive time schedule is available: https://khsaa.org/2026-indoor-state-track-meet-time-schedule/
- The State Indoor Championships will utilize Milesplit, the KHSAA’s exclusive provider of online registration and results.
- This allows the automatic conversions that the Milesplit platform already provides, and conversions would be permissible in the following specific events as a service to our schools:
- 60m High Hurdles to 55m High Hurdles
- 60m Dash to 55m Dash
- 1-mile to 1600m Run
- 2-mile to 3200m Run
- ** These will be the only events where conversions will be permitted; all other qualification performances must come from the specific event (i.e., 1500m times and 3000m times will neither be converted nor accepted for qualification).
