Nominee's Accomplishments at the High School Level in Kentucky:

As a player, Lynn Ray was a 3-sport athlete in football, basketball, and baseball at Boone County High School. He earned 1962 All-State Honorable Mention at running back, and was the team's 1962 Most Valuable Back. As a senior he was voted the school's overall Most Valuable Athlete for all sports at Boone County HS, he was co-captain of the football team, and earned 1963 All-State Honorable Mention at quarterback. He earned a football scholarship and played football at Eastern Kentucky, graduating in 1968. In his 5th year of coaching football, 29 year old Lynn Ray took over a football program at Covington Catholic that had no practice field, nor a football stadium, and that only had 34 wins in its 8-year history, and he built the program up over the next 30 seasons, winning 234 games - 200 more than the four head coaches who preceded him - and led the team to win five state football titles in the process (1987, 1988, 1993, 1994, 1997).
