Nominee's Accomplishments at the High School Level in Kentucky:

The journey as a home economics teacher, counselor, cheer coaching and president of kapos left Betty Novak with many unforgettable memories. Betty taught for 10 years, and was a counselor at Wolfe County High for 34 years, retired in 2015. Return to work as a middle school counselor in Wolfe County. Retired again in 2021. She coached high school cheerleading for 21 years of her tenure as an educator. In 1968, in the first State KAPOS Cheer Competition, Betty coach the squad from Owsley Co as they completed in State. Betty moved to Wolfe Co and became a counselor and cheer coach at Wolfe Co High. During her career Betty Novak’s squads captured numerous District Cheer titles. In 1976 her cheer squad from Wolfe Co High competed in State cheer competition. For 50 years, Betty has been a member of KAPOS. She has served as regional chair, sectional vice president and president during her tenure. She has been a cheer judge for State Cheerleading Competition‘s in Ohio, West Virginia and Kentucky. In 1991 Betty was selected to judge in Dallas Texas at National Cheer Association competition. She has been cheer coordinator of WYMT-TV Mountain basketball classic for 30 years. In 2005 at the 20th anniversary of WMYT Mountain Basketball Classic’s 25 year anniversary, Betty Novak was recognized at semi-finals with a plaque for appreciation of years of dedicated service in providing a quality Cheer component of the WYMT-TV mountain basketball classic In-Game cheer competition. In 1999, at the end of quarterfinals of KHSAA Sweet 16, Betty received the 1999 NFHS Spirit Award. I am proud to say that, since 2005, the 14th Region has awarded an annual cheerleading scholarship that bears Betty’s name. The cheer coaches in our region at that time unanimously voted to name the scholarship in honor of Betty Novak. Betty serves on the KAPOS advisory board, a cheer judge for KHSAA high school cheer competitions, KAPOS middle and elementary cheer competitions, and cheer coordinator of WYMT-TV In-Game Mountain basketball cheer competition. KAPOS continues to be a long-time partner of the KHSAA and long-time supporter of the Dawahares/KHSAA Hall of Fame
