Nominee's Accomplishments at the High School Level in Kentucky:
LTC Maynard began coaching during the school year 2000-2001 when he was made the volleyball and baseball coach. The baseball team won the Floyd County Conference and the 58th District Tournament for the first time in five years and advanced to the 15th Regional Tournament Semifinals. He was named the 2001 Floyd County Baseball Coach of the Year. Under his tutelage, Allen Central volleyball compiled a varsity volleyball season record of 451 wins against 180 losses and a postseason record of 55-20. He earned 12 Conference Championships, 11 District Championships, ten All-A Regional Championships (eight All-A state semifinalist runs and one All-A state runner-up finish), and six 15th Regional Champions and remains the only 15th Region Team to win a set or match in the KHSAA State Tournament. He was recognized as the Floyd County Volleyball Coach of the Year 12 times and the KVCA's Region 15 Coach of the Year five times. LTC Larry D. Maynard came to Allen Central High School after retiring from the U.S. Army in 1998. He established a Program of Instruction for the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps Program, put into action a Standard Operating Procedure, and integrated JROTC into the core curriculum at Allen Central High School. He was named the Athletic Director of Allen Central High School in 2003; he also became the Allen Central Middle School Volleyball coach and laid the Allen Central Volleyball Program's foundation. He established an excellent reputation with the KHSAA and was recognized for quality and ethical athletic programs that promoted participation, safety, sportsmanship, and integrity. Fielding six teams in 2003-2004, the Rebels claimed five District Championships. As the Middle School Coach, his teams claimed eight County Championships and compiled a record of 385-143. Allen Central Volleyball became the most successful Sports' Program in the high schools' history.
