Nominee's Accomplishments at the High School Level in Kentucky:
Mr. Rankin's accomplishments were unprecedented in the 1960's for an African-American. He was the cross country runner up in 1965, winning in 1966. He was the first champion of any sport from Somerset HS and one of the first three minority student athletes on scholarship at the University of Kentucky.
