Nominee's Accomplishments at the High School Level in Kentucky:

Mr. Collins football record in high school was 4 years All-State 1st Team, 3 years All-Amercian, 4 years All-Big 8, 3800 yards school record/TD (76) school record. His college career includes Ky Athletic HOF, Ky Legends, Ky Colonial, and SEC Legends. He also was 2nd Draft Choice Atlanta Falcons, Rookie Team Rushing & Carry Record, 3 years All-American, 4 years All-SEC, 1 year Player of the Year-SEC, and UK @ HS School Rushing Records. Sonny Collins was born in 1953 in Madisonville, Kentucky. He played football at Madisonville High School as a running back. He was one of the top rushers in the state, accumulating 6,200 yards from 1968-1971. Collins was also a running back at the University of Kentucky from 1972 to 1975, where he is the career rush leader with 3,835 yards, one of the top five season rushers, and one of the top ten scorers. Collins' jersey was retired in 1991, and he was inducted into the Kentucky Athletic Hall of Fame in 2002. He was selected by the Atlanta Falcons as the 8th pick of the 2nd round of the 1976 NFL draft. In a game against San Francisco, Collins set a record when he rushed 31 times for 107 yards. A knee injury ended his career after one year with the Atlanta Falcons.
