Nominee's Accomplishments at the High School Level in Kentucky:

A three-time letterman, Cooper led Corydon HS to appearances in the 1928 and 1929 state tournament, advancing to the semifinals in 1929. Reported to have scored more than 500 points during the 1928-29 season, despite playing in an era when most teams didn't score that many points in a season. Named All-State by the Madisonville Messenger in 1929. Cited as one of the pioneers of the basketball "jump shot" according to the book Big Leagues: Professional Baseball, Football and Basketball in National Memory. Played at Hopkinsville HS as a senior, winning a 4th District championship, before moving on to the University of Missouri. Earned three letters in basketball for the Tigers and was the leading scorer in the Big Six Conference and a unanimous 1st Team All-Conference in 1932. Also lettered in football (1932) and track (1933 and 1934) at Missouri. In the NCAA rule book, Cooper is cited as the first player to popularize the jump shot (1932-34). Graduated with a PhD in Education from Missouri in 1946 and went on to a decorated career in education. Wrote over 20 books in his teaching career, including The Theory and Science of Basketball in 1969. Was inducted into the Missouri Athletic Hall of Fame in 1992.
