Nominee's Accomplishments at the High School Level in Kentucky:
Downs was the head football coach at Bardstown for 17 seasons, compiling a career record of 154 wins and 59 losses (.723 winning percentage) while winning the KHSAA 2A State Championship in 2001 (15-0 record). He had eight 10-win seasons as head coach of the Tigers, with four undefeated regular seasons, nine district championships and four region titles. He was named district coach of the year on seven occasions and earned two Kentucky Coach of the Year awards (2001 Class AA and 2005 Class A). Downs was a two-time President of the KHSCA board.
