Nominee's Accomplishments at the High School Level in Kentucky:
Howard spent 20 seasons as the head football coach at Pikeville HS (1972-89, 1994-95), leading the Panthers to three-consecutive state championships (1987, 1988, 1989) and two-state runner-up finishes, while compiling a record of 208 wins and 48 losses. A five-time KY Coach of the Year, Howard led Pikeville to 12 regional titles. The school's all-time winningest coach, Howard led the Kentucky squad in the KY-TN All-Star Game in 1989 and was inducted into Pikeville's Athletic Hall of Fame in 2003. Howard also spent two seasons as the head girls' basketball coach at Pikeville, winning a 15th Region Championship in each of his seasons. He went on to start the football program at Letcher County Central HS and 2005, and coached there for 5 seasons, winning two regional championships.
