Nominee's Accomplishments at the High School Level in Kentucky:
Mr. Cowden took over the girls and boys Golf program in the spring of 1971 and serves as head coach to this day (48 seasons and counting)- though the coaching position is now shared with his daughter, Tori, as the head girls varsity coach. While at HCHS he also coached tennis, and drove after school weekend field trips. He often volunteers his time to transport students to various events. In 1974 he initiated the first modern Girls Basketball program at HCHS. In his 12 years as the girls' basketball coach his teams won five District 11 tournaments (with six district runner-up finishes) and recorded one Region 3 runner-up finish. His final record was 175 wins and 144 “Not So Well”. He resigned from coaching Basketball in 1986, but kept the golf position and became Athletic Director, serving in that capacity for 19 years. As Athletic Director he also served on the 3rd Region Policy Board for eight years (4 years as president) and the KHSAA Golf Committee for 11 years.
