Nominee's Accomplishments at the High School Level in Kentucky:
Herb Conley epitomizes Ashland Tomcat football as a legendary player and coach. He played on the last undefeated Tomcat team in 1958 and guided the Tomcats to a 70-33-2 record in his eight seasons as head coach. He was also an assistant coach on the 1967 championship team. Coach Conley led Ashland to a 14-1 season in 1975 when it won the Class AAAA At-Large state championship before losing to St. Xavier in the overall championship game. The Tomcats were 11-2 in 1972 and finished as state runner-up. Coach Conley is so admired that a statue was erected and sits in a prominent place in Putnam Stadium. He is beloved in this town. He was an assistant principal at the high school and the principal at the middle school following his outstanding coaching career. Coach Conley played college football at Eastern Kentucky for the great Roy Kidd.
