Nominee's Accomplishments at the High School Level in Kentucky:

Dave Cowens played basketball at Newport Catholic for two seasons in 1965 and 1966. His 1965 team was 21-8 winning a district championship. The 1966 Thoroughbreds were 29-3 winning a district and region championship. Cowens went on to play basketball at Florida State. He scored 1,479 points over his 78-game career at FSU. He averaged a startling 17.1 rebounds per game totaling 1,340 over his career. He led the Seminoles to the 1968 NCAA Tournament as a sophomore. He was drafted by the Boston Celtics as the 4th overall pick and won NBA Rookie of the Year in 1971 starting a 14-year career. He was named NBA Most Valuable Player in 1973 and was a 7x NBA All-Star. He won 2 NBA Championships with the Celtics in 1974 and 1976. He also served as head coach of the Celtics in 1978-79. He was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 1991.
