Nominee's Accomplishments at the High School Level in Kentucky:
Coach Cotton Adams is well known throughout the state of Kentucky as an accomplished and dedicated football coach and educator. Larry Adams is a Corbin KY native who played and coached at Corbin High School for a combined 31 years. As a player he participated on Corbin's last undefeated team in 1960 and also on the 1962 state runner-up squad. His coaching career began at Corbin under Archie Powers where he served for 13 years as an assistant. Corbin won state championship titles in both 1976 and 1980 while Adams was in that role. Coach Adams was named head coach at Corbin in 1981 and guided the Redhounds to a state championship in 1982 and a state runner-up finish in 1990. His overall head coaching record at Corbin was 114-46. Adams was a player or coach on 3 state championship teams and 3 runners-up during his years at Corbin. Success followed Larry Adams throughout his career and he is truly an integral part of the rich football tradition in Corbin Kentucky. Larry Adams was much more than just a football coach. Like many great coaches throughout the state of Kentucky Coach Adams was a mentor surrogate parent and counselor to the student/athletes he was involved with. Former Redhound players and students (who didn't necessarily play football) will tell you that Cotton impacted them well beyond the football field. He had an uncanny ability to make all students feel wanted and respected as he went about his duties as a Business and Typing teacher at Corbin High School. He is known as a no-nonsense guy with a tremendous affinity for hard work and fairness. HIs personal story reflects that. He left Corbin High School upon graduation and travelled to Dakota Wesleyan College in MItchell South Dakota. Adams travelled 58 hours on a Trailways bus on a promise of a scholarship from then University President Jack J. Early (who was also a Corbin native). He started for four years at linebacker and graduated before coming back to coach at Corbin.
