The preliminary field for the 2019 KHSAA State Fishing Championships is now set. This year’s event will feature 90 boats, all of which qualified based on their performance in one of four regional competitions.

All state championship anglers must pre-register online at HighSchoolFishing.org by May 7th. This will help confirm your participation and allow for boat captain changes if different from regional events. Only those teams who have qualified for the state championship will be able to register. The 2019 KHSAA State Bass Fishing Championship will be held May 10-11 at Kentucky Dam Marina.

“Upon review of the regional championship results and following consultation with our partners at Fishing League Worldwide (FLW), I feel comfortable that we can utilize three flights of thirty boats each and not impact the competition experience or our efforts to minimize risk,” said KHSAA Commissioner Julian Tackett. “Assistant Commissioner Mike Barren and the rest of our staff involved with this championship have worked diligently this year to help us navigate the continued increase in participation throughout the state and qualify a larger number of competitors for the state competition. Determining the state field in this manner also helps us to compensate for some regions with especially rapid growth while acknowledging the limited number of sites and dates available throughout the state for satisfactory regional competition.”

This marks an increase in participation at the KHSAA state championship for the second consecutive year, as the qualifying field was previously expanded from its original 64 boats to 80 in 2018, and is reflective of continued growth in the sport-activity of Bass Fishing.

The number of qualifying boats from each region was based on a minimum of sixteen boats from each region with the remaining 26 boats qualifying based on the ratio of boats entering the water at the regional competition to the number of total boats in all of the regions.
