The KHSAA has totaled the declarations for Dance for the 2021 season. After evaluation and for this year only, there will be two (2) postseason sites and those dates have now been finalized. It is recommended that any site that was previously planning to host a regional competition in 2021 be afforded that opportunity again in 2022. No changes were made to the regional alignments and competition will remain intra-region at the regional level but with fewer sites in response to the number of declarations and to aid in judging panel logistics. The schedule also takes into account that across the state, three different calendar weeks are used for spring breaks and two large national competitions obviously affect the availability of judging and staffing resources.

At the regional competitions, in order to accommodate larger competitions and the need for social distancing among spectators and eliminate mass gatherings, no regional trophies and awards presentation will be made but those earned trophies will be given to the teams upon arrival at the state championship.

Declaration numbers by school and by region can be found on the Dance website of the KHSAA. 48 total squads in all styles will qualify for the state final championships. Here is the total number of squads per division and per region that will qualify for the state championships:

Region Jazz Hip Hop Pom Game Day
R1 2 5 5 3
R2 3 4 5 2
R3 1 2 4 2
R4 2 3 4 1
Totals 8 14 18 8

Dates and sites for the 2021 Dance postseason have been finalized, with the Regionals taking place at two sites on the weekend of May 8th & 9th. Thank you for both of these great member schools for making their beautiful facilities available at a time when many schools were hesitant to do so.

  • Regions 1 & 2 will be held at Valley High School in Louisville on May 8th.
  • Regions 3 & 4 will be held at Letcher County Central High School on May 9th.

KHSAA Staff will continue to coordinate region sites and schedules with regional managers with postseason instructions and details will be released in the coming days.

The State Championship final event is set for May 16th at George Rogers Clark High School in Winchester. In the coming weeks, a detailed time schedule will be developed for the state championships.

Declaration numbers have been compiled for 2020-2021. Links to that information are below:
