The Board of Control conducted its final meeting of the 2018-19 academic year on May 7th and 8th at the KHSAA Offices. One of the agenda items dealt with setting championship dates and sites for the 2019-20 and 2020-21 academic years.

The state meet has been awarded and contracted for the Kentucky Horse Park through the 2020 season, with an option to extend past that point if desired. However, due to availability and commitments that the facility had made to other events, the dates for the 2020 State Wrestling Championship had to be adjusted from what was previously published in the corresponding dates calendar. The 2020 state championship will be held February 14-15, 2020 in Lexington.

There was a strong desire presented by the Commissioner and staff to permit the season to begin one week earlier due to this facility conflict. Therefore, in order to give schools the complete length of the season specified in Bylaw 23, the Board approved allowing the first interscholastic contest in wrestling to be held on November 18, 2019, with the postseason scheduled to begin with Regionals taking place the week of February 2-8, 2020.

This change will allow for the season to remain the standard length (11 weeks). Staff has also been informed that the State Dual Meet, sponsored by the Coaches Association, will continue to be two weekends prior to the regional competition, January 25, 2020.
