ROSTER UPDATE

Member schools are reminded that if you are going to compete in Girls’ Wrestling in competition against other girls’ wrestling teams, it is imperative that the School Control Panel be updated to indicate that you will be doing such. Much information will need to be gathered from those schools as postseason logistics are formulated. It is the staff’s intention to have a model near final to report this data to the Board of Control at their November meeting as this first year of an implemented championship in girls’ wrestling is executed. Such things as qualifying rounds and sites cannot be determined until there is a realistic estimate of those schools competing.

In addition, schools are reminded that (per the notice earlier this month at https://ly.khsaa.org/ndaa), the rosters for girls’ competition and boys’ competition are separate. In the case of a girl who competes in girls-only competition AND boys/coed competition, be sure they are listed on both rosters.

A list of the current teams offering girls’ wrestling (not girls competing on the boys/coed team, but those competing as girls teams and therefore, in the girls’ postseason competition) as of today is listed at the end of this post.

SURVEY RESULTS

A recent survey was conducted of the member schools on two issues related to girls’ championship competition in Wrestling (not girls competing on the boys/coed team, but those competing as girls’ teams and therefore, in the girls’ postseason competition). The initial post regarding the survey can be viewed at https://ly.khsaa.org/3tza.

Based on the survey results, the competition during the 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons will be conducted in 12 weight classes and utilize the boys’ weight classes, with the bounds (pre-growth allowance) being 108, 116, 124, 131, 138, 145, 152, 160, 170, 190, 215 and 285.

Survey totals were:

  • Girls’ Wrestling – 12 Classes-43, 13 Classes-6, 14 Classes-39
  • Girls’ Wrestling – NFHS Boys Weight Classes-49, NFHS Girls Weight Classes-37

Information on implementing the girls’ wrestling season in Trackwrestling will be distributed to the membership as soon as it is available.
