February 9, 2024 Athletic Department Blog Updates

I want to keep the line of communication open as our enrollment deadline for the Spring Season is now one week from today, Friday, February 16.

I hope you all are having fun and taking advantage of preseason play (which continues through next week). I highly recommend that all teams participate in at least one preseason match for team readiness as technical questions may arise depending on your esport. This affects new coaches & experienced coaches alike.

A few updates for you this week:

Spring Enrollment Update (Team Dashboard)
Our Team Dashboard has been updated from the list posted on 1/26. Please review the link below to see a current snapshot of the number of schools and teams we have enrolled:
https://ly.khsaa.org/dgwa

As you can see by the totals on the sheet, we now have 1,439 players enrolled on 376 teams across 105(!) schools with still one week to go.

If your school (or teams) are missing, please contact Playvs.com as soon as possible for them to assist you:
New Schools please contact: parker.duwelius@playvs.com
Returning Schools please contact: zachary.baxley@playvs.com

Season Updates from PlayVS
PlayVS will, over the course of the next few days, be releasing “How the Match Assistant Works” videos for all game titles. These videos, along with other helpful instructional videos can be found on their YouTube page, specifically this playlist

League of Legends & Riot Vanguard
Coaches should sign up for Riot’s “Campus League Unlock” program in order to unlock champions.
Riot plans to close sign-ups on 2/14/24 at 5:00 PM PST.
Vanguard, a new security software, is coming to League of Legends later this Spring, and will be required to play.
More on Vanguard in the Riot Games Support article here.
PlayVS also created a Riot Games Support article here.

Game Title Documentation Updates

  • High School Coaching: For coaching during a live game, PlayVS added 10.4 Match Communications to the Rulebook.
  • Individual Rulebook Updates: PlayVS has standardized each individual esport rulebook for readability and consistency.
    • Ex. 1.5 Match Format can be found in all Title Rulebooks
  • Game Day Protocol: Previously entitled “Game Day Protocols” for individual titles are now entitled “Match Instructions”.
    • Match Instructions articles will now give you all the necessary game-day information for your unique esports title. Find your title’s Match Instructions here.
    • Some steps are required for all titles for every game day, so PlayVS also built one universal PlayVS Game Day Protocol.

Reminders sent out from last week:

KHSAA Online Roster & Coaching Databases
Now that you can see the number of players per school on your dashboard, it is imperative the KHSAA Online Roster system (https://schools.khsaa.org/roster/) matches what coaches have entered into PlayVS’ roster system. Remember – They have to be loaded into PlayVS’ roster system to play the games, but they must be in our system to be eligible to play the games. That is the same way with your coaching staff as well.

Student and Coaching requirements
Just a quick reminder that like every other KHSAA Sport or Activity, each student must have a physical and all Coaches head/assistant/paid/unpaid are subject to KHSAA Bylaw 25 Coaching Requirements

PlayVS Nintendo Switch Bundle Spring 24 Promotion
You still have two weeks – full details can be found here
