REGIONAL INSTRUCTIONS/POSTSEASON UPDATES

  • Region Meets: May 12 – May 25
  • All 21 region dates and sites are set: REGIONAL MANAGERS
  • The region meet instructions are available for review. Coaches should review prior to entering the regional meet. REGION INSTRUCTIONS (Track & Field begins on page 32). 
  • The Clark’s Pump-n-Shop State Track & Field Championships will return to the University of Kentucky on June 1-3, 2023.
  • Class 1A will compete on June 1, followed by Class 2A on June 2, and Class 3A on June 3, a tentative time schedule has been posted: TIME SCHEDULE

UNIFIED 

  • The KHSAA and Special Olympics Kentucky (SOKY) will once again offer exhibition unified events in the postseason. This allows high school students with and without intellectual disabilities the opportunity to represent their high school as partners in an event.
  • The events that will be offered include: 2x50m Dash Relay, 2x200m Dash Relay, 4x100m Relay, Long Jump, and Shot Put.
  • Any participation as a special athlete shall not exceed four (4) events within one meet.
  • For 2023, each school will be limited to entering a maximum of six (6) pairs in each running event (2×50, 2×200, and 4×100) and a maximum of four (4) pairs in each field event (long jump and shot put). 
  • All events are co-ed. 
  • Long Jump – Coaches/Athletes are reminded that each participant gets 2 jumps and the best jump for each athlete will be added together to determine the final distance. If the partner athlete is in the varsity long jump, there must be 2 additional jumps from the partner athlete to be used for the unified division (you cannot use the best jump from the varsity competition). 
  • Shot Put – Each participant gets 2 throws and the best throw for each athlete will be added together to determine the final distance. Boys in this division will throw a 4k Shot and Girls in this division will throw a 6 lb shot. If the partner athlete is in the varsity shot put, there must be 2 additional throws from the partner athlete to be used for the unified division (you cannot use the best throw from the varsity competition).

ADAPTED 

  • The KHSAA will once again offer exhibition-adapted events in the postseason. This allows high school students with physical disabilities the opportunity to participate in athletics and represent their high school. 
  • The events that will be offered include: Shot Put, Discus, 100m Dash (racing wheelchair required).  
  • After the entry deadline, based upon entries received, heats/divisions will be determined. 
  • Shot Put/Discus: Each competitor shall be allowed three throws in the preliminary finals and three throws in the finals. Girls in the shot put division will throw the 6 lb shot. Boys in the shot put division will throw the 4 kg shot. Boys and girls in the discus division will through the 1 kg discus.

JEWELRY/SUNGLASSES

  • There are no restrictions on jewelry or sunglasses worn during meets should the athlete choose to do so.

The Kentucky High School Athletic Association was organized in 1917 and is the agency designated by the Kentucky Department of Education to manage high school athletics in the Commonwealth.
