As scheduled, the Board of Control yesterday gave final approval to the alignment of schools for the 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons for the sports of Track & Field and Cross Country. All schools are placed in the alignment, regardless of current participation levels to account for varying levels of participation. Following the sharing of the draft alignment in May, the Board shared that it would consider any geographic appeals and adopt the alignment in final form at its July meeting.

Also at that meeting, the Board approved a recommendation that the alignment duration is to be for two seasons, consistent with the football alignment discussion, and that the enrollments for 2022-23 and 2023-24 be used to realign the schools again during 2023-24 for the purpose of alignment for 2024-2025 through 2027-28. The enrollment for 2023-24 will be used twice in determining an average, as all indications are that enrollment numbers will stabilize post-pandemic to be a more accurate projector of future school size.

The final product of the process is online at https://khsaa.org/track/realignment/2022/final%20track%20and%20field%20&%20cross%20country%20alignment%20of%20teams%202023-24%20to%202024-25.pdf and over the next few days, staff will effort to ensure that all potentially inconsistent listings are removed for clarity and our online system is also updated. The final product will be in place for the 2023 Cross Country season.

Thanks as always for your great work on behalf of the students in the Commonwealth.
