The Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA), a private, non-profit entity designated by the Kentucky Board of Education to manage high school sports and sport-activities in the Commonwealth, must fill the position of Assistant Commissioner. This opening is created by an approved expansion of staff to aid in the conduct of high school championships, and the successful candidate should be prepared to begin the position with the close of the 2023-2024 school year.

This opening is a regular, full-time position with a work week of at least 37.5 hours, twelve months a year, and is not an hourly wage position. Current employees at the KHSAA operate on a memorandum of agreement with employment benefits administered by the Kentucky Educational Development Cooperative (KEDC) based in Ashland. The applicant must meet all laws and requirements of the Kentucky Retirement Systems, and the position is not subject to any emergency provisions within those requirements.

Job Description:

This position will include being the primary event director for various sports and sport-activity championships, assisting with membership services and other administrative duties as determined by a review of the successful candidate’s experience and skill set, and the same comparison with existing staff and their assignments. The successful candidate will handle general correspondence from email, will assist in daily review of the KHSAA website, and will assist as requested with student eligibility.

This Assistant Commissioner will also provide additional leadership as the primary event director for KHSAA Championships that they may or may not have experience or expertise. These may include, but are not limited to, girls’ Field Hockey, boys’ and girls’ Swimming and Diving and boys’ and girls’ Lacrosse. Additional primary sports or sports activities may be added or substituted based on the candidate. Experience in these sports is not necessary as the fundamental duties are the same for each member of the Commission, regardless of specific sports experience. Conflicts of interest and clarity of performance may be impacted by a single-minded focus on a past sport or sport-activity, and cross-sport experience should be emphasized. This candidate will also assist in all championships as otherwise assigned and directed by the Commissioner.

Compensation, Requirements and Application Process:

The starting salary will be negotiable and no lower than $80,000, including a KHSAA-provided transportation package. A complete benefits package, including retirement, is available, commensurate with the standard package of the current staff through the Kentucky Educational Development Corporation, which administers KHSAA employment benefits through a memorandum of agreement.
