As you plan for spring events in 2023, we would like to remind schools about the postseason dates for spring sports. Please make sure all parties involved in planning graduation dates, spring activities, etc. are aware of the postseason dates which should help fans, coaches and administrators avoid scheduling conflicts.

TRACK & FIELD

  • First Date of Practice: December 1
  • First Allowable Contest Date: January 9
  • Region Meets: May 12 – May 25
    • As regions begin preparation, please remember that all scheduling is led by the regional host, but discussions and planning should include all schools involved. 
  • The KHSAA State Track & Field Meet will return to the University of Kentucky on June 1-3, 2023.
    • Class 1A will compete on June 1, followed by Class 2A on June 2, and Class 3A on June 3.

TENNIS

  • First Date of Practice: February 13
  • First Allowable Contest Date: March 6
  • Region Tournaments: May 12 – May 25
    • As regions begin preparation, please remember that all scheduling is led by the regional host, but discussions and planning should include all schools involved. 
  • The KHSAA State Tennis Championships will take place May 30-June 1, 2023.
    • Matches will be held at both Top Seed Tennis Club and the University of Kentucky on May 30, with all competition taking place at Top Seed Tennis Club on May 31 and June 1.

SOFTBALL

  • First Date of Practice: Feb. 13 
    • Scrimmages may occur any time after the first official practice date but not following your first contest (whenever that is scheduled)
  • First Allowable Contest Date: March 13
  • District Tournaments: May 15 – May 22
    • Districts can vote by majority to play as early as May 13
  • Region Tournaments: May 20 – May 29
  • State First Round/Quarterfinals: John Cropp Stadium, UK, Lexington
    (Blind draw Regions 1-16) on first weekend of June
  • State Semifinals, and Final: John Cropp Stadium, UK, Lexington on second weekend of June

BASEBALL

  • First Date of Practice: Feb. 13 
    • Scrimmages may occur any time after the first official practice date but not following your first contest (whenever that is scheduled)
  • First Allowable Contest Date: March 13
  • District Tournaments: May 15 – May 22
    • Districts can vote by majority to play as early as May 13
  • Region Tournaments: May 20 – May 29
  • State First & Second Rounds: Kentucky Proud Park, UK, Lexington
    (Blind draw Regions 1-16) on June 1-3
  • State Semifinals, and Final: Kentucky Proud Park, UK, Lexington
    June 9-10

About the Kentucky High School Athletic Association
The Kentucky High School Athletic Association was organized in 1917 and is the agency designated by the Kentucky Department of Education to manage high school athletics in the Commonwealth. The Association is a voluntary nonprofit 501(c)3 organization made up of 287 member schools, both public and non-public. The KHSAA awards 215 state championships to 51 teams and 164 individuals in 13 sports and six sport-activities, funds catastrophic insurance coverage for its more than 106,000 rostered member school student-athletes, provides coaching education and sports safety programs for more than 12,000 coaches and licenses, and facilitates the distribution of training material for over 4,000 contest officials.
