Just a quick reminder about the change to Bylaw 23 regarding Archery, approved at last year’s annual meeting.

Starting with the 2025-26 school year, the first contest date for archery has been moved from October 1st to December 1st. Schools are allowed to schedule a two-week tryout window between the first day of school and December 1st.

With school approval, students may participate in NASP tournaments prior to December 1, provided that:

  • The event is listed on the NASP website, and

  • It follows all NASP rules and regulations.

Bylaw 23. Limitation of Seasons

SEC. 15) SPECIFIC LIMITATIONS- OTHER SPORT-ACTIVITIES- ARCHERY- BOYS/COED AND GIRLS
a) The first organized practice shall not take place before December 1.
b) The opportunity to participate in regular season contests shall end at all levels of play (grades 9-12) on the day prior to the first day for varsity
level competition in KHSAA-sanctioned postseason events, with the exception that the varsity team may practice and play through its elimination
from KHSAA-sanctioned tournament play. Following the elimination, there shall be no further official practice or play during the remainder of
the academic school year.
c) From the start of the academic school year until the published first date of practice, schools are permitted to designate a single two-week tryout
period following which there shall be no further practice or competition outside of the defined season as detailed in subsections (a) and (b)
above.

About the Kentucky High School Athletic Association

The Kentucky High School Athletic Association was organized in 1917 and is the agency designated by the Kentucky Department of Education to manage high school athletics in the Commonwealth. The Association is a voluntary nonprofit 501(c)3 organization made up of 284 member schools both public and non-public. The KHSAA awards 215 state championships to 51 teams and 164 individuals in 13 sports and 6 sport-activities, funds catastrophic insurance coverage for its more than 106,000 rostered member school student-athletes, provides coaching education and sports safety programs for more than 12,000 coaches, and licenses and facilitates the distribution of training material for over 4,000 contest officials.
