02/20/25 – Updated Time Schedule for State Swimming & Diving Finals

Athletic Department Blog Updates

The KHSAA staff has worked with the University of Kentucky and our lead meet officials to adjust the time schedule for the 2025 KHSAA State Swimming & Diving Finals presented by UK HealthCare.

All girls’ swimming and diving events will now take place on Friday, February 21, and all boys’ swimming and diving events on Saturday, February 22. Adjustments were made to the time schedule to ensure that athletes are not swimming earlier than originally scheduled on Friday or Saturday than the original schedule.

The girls’ and boys’ swimming prelims have no changes to the time schedule between events. Be advised that the gender-specific diving competition has been adjusted to fit between the swimming prelims and finals, which did alter the swimming finals start times to a slightly later time. While this may result in facility attendance issues, we believe that in the end, the schedule adjustments will work to accommodate all involved.

The KHSAA Board of Control conducted its fifth regularly scheduled meeting of the 2024-25 academic year on Wednesday in Lexington, approving the authorization for the Commissioner to work with staff to plan potential site adjustments to state championship events in the sports of baseball, tennis and swimming & diving due to facility schedule or construction conflicts.

With the threat of potential inclement weather forecasted across the state this weekend, it was necessary to adjust the format and site schedule for the 2025 KHSAA Swimming & Diving State Championships at the Lancaster Aquatic Center on the University of Kentucky campus in Lexington.

“Safety of the student-athletes, coaches, families and others has to always be a paramount concern,” said Commissioner Julian Tackett. “With the current storm, coupled with transportation issues around last weekend’s flooding and the prospect for additional bad weather tonight, we will condense our three-day state swimming & diving […]

    Athletic Department Blog Updates

The KHSAA wanted to update member schools about Wrestling postseason dates and sites.

While maintaining two seasons in Trackwrestling presents challenges for coaches and administrators, it is imperative that member schools continue to be diligent in maintaining accurate rosters in both TrackWrestling and Arbiter. Coaches should be listed and properly assigned in Arbiter to the teams they work with, as that list will be utilized for coaching passes in the postseason, and should meet all Bylaw 25 requirements.

Female student-athletes have a choice of which postseason to enter (Boys/Coed or Girls) but cannot enter both due to weight management/class requirements and the concurrence of the championship events. Any female entered in the girls’ postseason may not also be entered in the boys’ tournament, and vice versa. Once entered into the postseason, the student-athlete shall compete in that division for the remainder of the postseason.

Female student-athletes desiring to enter the girls’ wrestling postseason should have […]

    1/17/25 – Lacrosse Postseason Update

    Athletic Department Blog Updates

The KHSAA Board of Control met yesterday and approved a revision to the postseason format for boys’ and girls’ lacrosse. Under the updated format, both the regional champion and runner-up will now qualify for the state tournament. The bracketing system will remain unchanged from the plan approved in November, which includes two region pairings where the winner of one region faces the runner-up from another region in the first round. These region pairings will rotate annually, similar to the format used in boys’ volleyball.

The inclusion of regional runner-up teams will add an additional round to the state tournament. In Round 1, the regional champions will host the runner-up from the opposite region, and the winners will advance to the quarterfinals. Winners will play at the higher seed for the quarterfinals if the seeds are not the same. If both teams share the same seed, the lower-numbered region will host the quarterfinal match for […]

Please note that this post will be updated as new questions come in and should serve as a helpful reference for our coaches. Since boys’ volleyball will follow similar guidelines to our other sports regarding coaching requirements, schedules/scores, postseason, and championships, your Athletic Director will also continue to be a valuable resource for additional information and is required to be involved for the sport to comply with Federal OCR guidelines.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: NOV. 26, 2024

Each year, the Kentucky High School Athletic Association honors the top officials for the sports in which it licenses officials. Finalists in each sport are selected through a combination of not only on-field performance but also local association activity and leadership, training efforts and the mentoring of newer officials.

One official in each sport is named Outstanding Official of the Year in appreciation of their dedication and service to schools and student-athletes across the state. Winners are selected following consultation with local assigning secretaries, veteran officials’ observers and coaches throughout the state, as well as additional staff review.

The Outstanding Official of the Year for the 2024-25 field hockey season is Chris Niblock of Louisville. Each finalist will receive a commemorative watch and certificate courtesy of the Officials Trust Fund, with the Official of the Year receiving an additional recognition award.

11/26/24 – Frequently Asked Lacrosse Questions

    Athletic Department Blog Updates

Following the board announcement regarding boys’ and girls’ lacrosse, our office has received additional questions about the upcoming season. We fully understand that many of our bylaws and procedures are new to many of our member school teams and representatives from the time when it was managed as a club sport (not sanctioned for a KHSAA championship).

To ensure consistent communication, we’ve put together this Frequently Asked Questions blog post, addressing some of the common queries we’ve received about lacrosse. Please note that this post will be updated as new questions come in and should serve as a helpful reference for our coaches. Since lacrosse will follow similar guidelines to our other sports regarding coaching requirements and championships, your Athletic Director will also continue to be a valuable resource for additional information and is required to be involved for the sport to comply with Federal OCR guidelines.
