FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: JAN. 15, 2026
The KHSAA Board of Control conducted its January 15th meeting, the fourth of the 2025-26 academic year, in Lexington, with in-depth back-and-forth dialogue on football realignment considerations for 2027, a drastic increase in eligibility cases, and movement of member schools within the 8th region necessitated by the placement of Cornerstone Christian in Shelbyville.
A spirited conversation addressing an upcoming football realignment, which occurs every two years, looking for new opportunities for schools in the playoff structure. The Board of Control will review bracketing.
One concept to consider is using RPI-based pairings starting in the second round. The first round could then either involve adjacent districts or be within a district, and the board will survey the membership on those options. The intent is to avoid repeated playoff matchups. The board will consider the survey results, and if any change is approved, it […]

It is provided for a variety of reasons, including district tiebreaking and football bracketing, and as a means to increase publicity, interest and promotion of interscholastic athletics. RPI is also used as a tiebreaking/contest-result mechanism to decide seeded district games that are not played by the deadline. RPI rankings are updated on an hourly basis but are not calculated for teams with missing scores from the previous day. Therefore, it is essential for results to remain comprehensive for accuracy.

Cheer / Dance State Championships Postponed Due to Weather
IMPORTANT NOTICE TO MEMBER SCHOOLS AND COMPETITIVE CHEER/DANCE PARTICIPATING TEAMS, SCHOOLS, ADMINISTRATORS AND FANS
Due to the onset of the latest round of inclement weather overnight Thursday into Friday morning, and additional snow and ice expected, along with bitterly cold temperatures that will minimise snowmelt, the 2025-26 KHSAA State Competitive Cheer & Dance Championships have been postponed. With more than 100 Cheer squads and nearly 70 Dance squads headed to the state site in Winchester, the safety of participants, coaches, administrators, and parents remains the primary concern around this decision. A compelling factor in this decision is the more than significant number of squads that travel in school buses and vans from districts that have made the difficult decision to cancel classes on Friday to mitigate risk.
The postponed event is now tentatively rescheduled for January 9-11, 2026, at George Rogers Clark High School in Winchester. Following final confirmation of logistical details, additional notifications, including […]

11/21/25 – Clarification to Weigh-In Procedure
In an effort to address issues surrounding weigh-in procedures, meet management shall establish a set time for weigh-ins at each event, rather than a weigh-in “window.”
In past practice, having a window of time for weigh-ins could result in teams arriving at the end of the timeframe, causing delays to the competition start time, bracket changes/redraws, etc.
NFHS Rule 4-5-3 states that “For any event, all contestants shall be present in and remain in the designated weigh-in area at the time established by the meet administration.”
With this in mind, all competitors shall be present at the designated time of weigh-ins, with an emphasis on the following:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: NOV. 13, 2025
The KHSAA Board of Control conducted its November 13th meeting, the third of the 2025-26 academic year, in Lexington with numerous conversations concerning tennis, soccer, diving, lacrosse and wrestling.
Significant changes could be coming to boys’ and girls’ individual and doubles tennis state tournaments as the board attempts to address significant facility issues with its current format. The board will evaluate, much like golf, a format that would have those that advance from region tournaments (champions, runners-up and semifinalists) playing at four different satellite venues in the first round of the state tournament. The first-round state events will consist of four sites, with four regions at each site (i.e., Regions 1-4, 5-8, 9-12, and 13-16).
