03/11/2026 – Spring Esports Postseason Schedule Revision

Athletic Department Blog Updates

Due to the majority of our school districts in the state taking Spring Break the week of 4/6, and the fact that the opening rounds of this year’s spring playoffs were scheduled during that week, we have adjusted the postseason schedule (the rest of the Kentucky Districts’ spring breaks fell into the previous week of 3/30).

What this means:

  • There will be no matches scheduled during the week of 4/6 (this primarily affected Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, as they are 64- and 32-team brackets, respectively).
  • The schedules for these two titles have been compressed, with their quarterfinal rounds now scheduled for the week of our in-person state championships (still set for Thursday, April 23).
  • Important:  Because of this shift, there will be a tight turnaround before the April 23 in-person championships, so any necessary reschedules that may come up for schools (sick players, weather, etc.) must be done on […]

Following the Board of Control’s approval at its November meeting to revise the format of the State Tennis Singles/Doubles Championships, KHSAA staff have been working to incorporate the new first-round events into the postseason schedule.

For the 2026 season, the region tournament window will be adjusted to May 1-17, giving each region an extra weekend to hold the event if it so desires. Regions are encouraged to complete the singles/doubles tournaments first, so that advancers are known early for seeding into the state first-round events.

The State First Round Tournaments will take place on Wednesday, May 20, at four regional sites. Thursday, May 21, will be utilized only as a makeup date if weather forces an event to be postponed.

01/26/26 – Wrestling Postseason Updates

Athletic Department Blog Updates

The KHSAA wanted to update member schools about Wrestling postseason dates and sites.

While maintaining two seasons in Trackwrestling presents challenges for coaches and administrators, it is imperative that member schools continue to be diligent in maintaining accurate rosters in both TrackWrestling and Arbiter. Female student-athletes have a choice of which postseason to enter (Boys/Coed or Girls) but cannot enter both due to weight management/class requirements and the concurrence of the championship events. Any female entered in the girls’ postseason may not also be entered in the boys’ tournament, and vice versa. 01/15/26 – Board of Control Discusses Football Realignment Considerations, Places Cornerstone Christian in 8th Region, Recognizes The Work of Frank Riherd

2025-2026 News Releases

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: JAN. 15, 2026

The KHSAA Board of Control conducted its January 15th meeting, the fourth of the 2025-26 academic year, in Lexington, with in-depth back-and-forth dialogue on football realignment considerations for 2027, a drastic increase in eligibility cases, and movement of member schools within the 8th region necessitated by the placement of Cornerstone Christian in Shelbyville.

A spirited conversation addressing an upcoming football realignment, which occurs every two years, looking for new opportunities for schools in the playoff structure. The Board of Control will review bracketing.

One concept to consider is using RPI-based pairings starting in the second round. The first round could then either involve adjacent districts or be within a district, and the board will survey the membership on those options. The intent is to avoid repeated playoff matchups. The board will consider the survey results, and if any change is approved, it […]

Cheer / Dance State Championships Postponed Due to Weather

2025-2026 News Releases

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO MEMBER SCHOOLS AND COMPETITIVE CHEER/DANCE PARTICIPATING TEAMS, SCHOOLS, ADMINISTRATORS AND FANS

Due to the onset of the latest round of inclement weather overnight Thursday into Friday morning, and additional snow and ice expected, along with bitterly cold temperatures that will minimise snowmelt, the 2025-26 KHSAA State Competitive Cheer & Dance Championships have been postponed. With more than 100 Cheer squads and nearly 70 Dance squads headed to the state site in Winchester, the safety of participants, coaches, administrators, and parents remains the primary concern around this decision. A compelling factor in this decision is the more than significant number of squads that travel in school buses and vans from districts that have made the difficult decision to cancel classes on Friday to mitigate risk.

The postponed event is now tentatively rescheduled for January 9-11, 2026, at George Rogers Clark High School in Winchester. Following final confirmation of logistical details, additional notifications, including […]
