04/30/24 – NFHS Announces Wrestling Rule Changes
Participants Now Inbounds with One Point of Contact in High School Wrestling
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
INDIANAPOLIS – Beginning with the 2024-25 season, high school wrestlers will be inbounds with only one point of contact of either wrestler inside or on the boundary line.
This fundamental change to high school wrestling was one of six major changes impacting almost 30 rules recommended by the NFHS Wrestling Rules Committee at its April 1-3 meeting in Indianapolis. All recommended changes were subsequently approved by the NFHS Board of Directors.
Previously, high school wrestlers were considered to be inbounds if a total of two supporting points of either wrestler were inside or on the boundary line. The two supporting points could be two supporting points of one wrestler or one supporting point of each wrestler inside or on the boundary line.
“Without increasing risk, this change eliminates the subjectivity of the […]
04/29/2024 – Title IX Report Error in Calculation of Historical Team Matrix
It has been brought to our attention that there is an issue with this year’s online Title IX report tool. It involves the Historical Team Matrix that is used to determine Test 2. Specifically, Volleyball and Wrestling. Both the Team Matrix and Test 2 are automatically generated.
As you are aware, we split the genders for both sports in our database this past school year, but the Title IX software was not modified to reflect that change. Therefore, in most cases, the matrix will show that you offered Volleyball and Wrestling for the current school year, it omitted all past data.
Overnight tonight, we will roll out the software patch and automatically unsubmit any Title IX reports that have been submitted. Each school that has submitted will then need to sign back into their KHSAA account, review each Title IX form, and then resubmit their report by Wednesday, May 1.
If you have not submitted […]

03/21/24 – NFHS Bat Compliance Update Warstic Bonesaber-3 Baseball Bat
The KHSAA received the following from the NFHS office regarding the Warstic Bonesaber-3 Baseball Bat.
FOLLOW-UP CLARIFICATION FROM THE NFHS TO THE BELOW POST
For clarification, the Warstic Bonesaber -3 non-wood baseball bat with the factory handle wrapping is compliant. However, please emphasize to your schools and umpires that the Warstic Bonesaber -3 baseball bat is a compliant non-wood baseball bat for high school varsity competition with factory handle wrapping.
Any baseball bat (wood or non-wood) from any bat manufacturer with a traditional or non-traditional knob is at risk of being rendered non-compliant when it is rewrapped in a manner that the wrapping is over the knob making the knob flush (level with) the handle. A simple solution to correct the non-compliant wrapped bat is to remove the existing wrapping and rewrap the handle.
The image of the red-wrapped bat below is an illegal bat because it was rewrapped
incorrectly. That wrapping eliminates the […]

03/11/2024- Expansion Announced of KHSAA Partnership with ArbiterSports To Include School/Coach Data Management
At its regular meeting in February, the Board heard a report from the Commissioner regarding the KHSAA online data system. The Association has long offered a first-in-class system for its Athletic Directors to manage the vast amount of data related to the athletic program, in particular, the monitoring of the various requirements for coaches. With the landscape continually changing in new and additional requirements, the Association has been reviewing, some formally and some informally, various options for the future of this vital program for a good length of time.
It is not lost on anyone on the staff the value that this service is to the membership. The system encompasses a litany of different tools to manage schedules, scores, rosters, coach data and so much more. From that data, such projects as stats, results, RPI, Title IX analysis and so many things are derived and expanded upon. This all-in-one package has served the membership well […]

FOR ATHLETIC DIRECTORS
I cannot stress this enough: though your student-athletes and coaches have to be loaded into and be active in PlayVS’ system in order to play the games, they have to be loaded into the KHSAA online roster and coaching databases to be eligible to play the games. Just like any other KHSAA sport or sport activity and for both the regular and postseason. So please make certain all of your student-athletes and coaches are loaded into the KHSAA Online System as soon as possible.
I found out in the fall when I compared both the number of athletes and coaches in PlayVS’ system vs. the KHSAA system and found quite a few discrepancies that I had to get school admins to clean up once the season […]
01/23/24 – Wrestling Postseason Updates
The KHSAA wanted to update member schools about Wrestling postseason dates and sites.
As we approach the first postseason for girls’ wrestling as a sanctioned sport, it is imperative that member schools continue to be diligent in maintaining accurate rosters in both the KHSAA subdomain and TrackWrestling. Coaches must also be entered on the KHSAA subdomain and meet all Bylaw 25 requirements for those entering the girls’ only competition.
Female student-athletes have a choice of which postseason to enter (Boys/Coed or Girls) but cannot enter both due to weight management/class requirements and the concurrence of the championship events. Any female entered in the girls’ postseason may not also be entered in the boys’ tournament, and vice versa. Once entered into the postseason, the student-athlete shall compete in that division for the remainder of the postseason.
Female student-athletes desiring to enter the girls’ wrestling postseason should have a profile in TrackWrestling and be entered into the […]
01/22/24 – Postseason Diving Entry Requirements Adjusted Due to Weather
The KHSAA competition rules state that for risk minimization reasons, to be eligible to participate in the KHSAA Regional and State Diving meets, a contestant must have competed in at least four (4) diving meets on a team representing a member school. However, due to several cancellations last weekend as a result of inclement weather, it may be more challenging through no fault of the competitors, to meet that requirement.
As a result, for the 2023-24 season, the four (4) minimum number of Diving meets to enter the postseason is reduced to three (3) meets, all of which must be while representing a member school. Upon entering divers into the Regional Championship, the coach and athletic director of the member school are required to certify that all divers and diving alternates have participated in the required meets.
As plans are made for future years, all coaches and meet managers should be aware of this important […]
