The state championship slate for the 2021-22 academic year gets started next week with the 2021 Leachman Buick•GMC•Cadillac/KHSAA State Golf Championships (Oct. 4-9) at the Bowling Green Country Club. This is the 16th-consecutive season the KHSAA has brought its championships to the club. The girls’ tournament is up first with the opening round at 7 a.m. CT on Tuesday, Oct. 5, followed by the final 18 holes starting at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 6. Boys’ action begins on Friday, Oct. 8, with championship play wrapping up on Saturday, Oct. 9.

Tickets are required for all spectators at this year’s tournaments and are available online only at khsaatickets.org. There will be no on-site cash or credit card sales, and fans are encouraged to purchase their tickets in advance to expedite the admission process. Tickets will be redeemed on patrons’ phones on the path towards holes one and 10.

For the second straight year, the KHSAA will utilize Golf Genius for tournament scoring with one player from each group entering scores from a mobile device after each hole. Live scores entered by the players will be considered unofficial, as players will be required to finalize their round in the official scoring area following completion of their 18 holes.

Marshall County looks to repeat as girls’ team state champions after winning the 2020 event with a score of 619 (314-305), which was 43 strokes in front of its nearest competition. Apollo’s Macey Brown took girls’ medalist honors with a two-round 145 (71-74). Trinity (Lou.) captured the boys’ team state title a year ago by shooting a 614 (300-314), edging Taylor County by four strokes. Jay Nimmo of Marshall County was the individual champion after carding a three-under par 141 (68-73) before ultimately claiming the title in a playoff.
