FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: DECEMBER 9, 2013

The Kentucky High School Athletic Association announced a new corporate partner in a press conference at the Association’s headquarters on Tuesday, revealing Whitaker Bank as the new title sponsor of the KHSAA Boys’ Sweet Sixteen®. The new three-year agreement will begin this season with the 2014 KHSAA Boys’ Sweet 16® and continue through the 2016 tournament.

“We have a new member of the family we want to welcome today, and I truly mean it’s a family. When we get people involved, I don’t even like to use the word sponsor, because we view it as a partnership, and that’s going to continue,” said KHSAA Commissioner Julian Tackett. “We want you to know that our family has expanded today, and for us it involves our highest profile event. This is a huge event that has touched lives for nearly 100 years, and it is with a great deal of pride and satisfaction that we welcome the newest member of our family to become the sponsor of that event, and that’s Mr. Elmer Whitaker and the folks at Whitaker Bank Corporation.”

“This is a chance to give back. That’s what it means to Whitaker Bank Corporation of Kentucky,” said Mr. Whitaker. “It’s a chance to take our family business and help this family (KHSAA). It’s a wonderful opportunity, and we hope to be an active partner and make changes in the lives of young people in our state.

“Growing up in Kentucky, living here my whole life, the boys’ sweet sixteen is something that every young man who ever dribbled a basketball dreams of participating in,” added Whitaker. “But we want to go beyond that, and that’s why we have a scholarship program and other aspects to try to have an impact on all the students across the state of Kentucky.”

The 2014 Whitaker Bank/KHSAA Boys’ Sweet 16® will be held March 19-23 at Rupp Arena in Lexington. Tickets are available for purchase through the KHSAA website.
