ATHLETIC DIRECTOR INSTITUTE

The 2019 KHSAA Athletic Director Institute will be held at the KHSAA offices in Lexington on Tuesday, September 17. Designed for ADs of all experience levels, this meeting will begin with registration around 8:30, conclude before 3:00. A light lunch (sandwich box, etc.) will be provided by the KHSAA for those who register prior to September 12. There will be a short break following this meeting and then those who optionally choose to do so may choose to attend the expanded training being offered by the KHSADA that evening.

The KHSAA staff will conduct the first portion of the meeting which should afford our newer and veteran ADs an in-depth review of all 27 KHSAA Bylaws, a review of required forms and procedures and other vital segments to allow for continuous improvement. Though it is not restricted in terms of attendance, many veteran ADs may find the content redundant. The meeting is being held so that those with travel concerns can come for the meeting on the 19th, stay in the Lexington area that night, and attend the Annual Meeting the next morning. Lunch will be provided to attendees.

This meeting will provide six hours toward the Bylaw 25 requirement for Athletic Directors, in addition to EILA Credit as applicable.

To register for the day session, go to https://schools.khsaa.org/ge47-advanced-athletic-administrators-institute-form/.

Planned topics include (based on feedback from the Region Meetings):

  • Music copyrights
  • Details on Each Bylaw and the Competition Rules
  • Emphasis on Bylaw 25 and Coaching Qualifications
  • Emphasis Session on Bylaw 16 (Recruiting / Undue Influence)
  • How to Handle KHSAA Data Requirements juggling a Teaching Load
  • Gathering Information for Title IX Report – T35, Cheer vs. Dance
  • Booster Issues
  • Title IX
  • In-Depth Forms Review of all DP Forms
  • Due Process and the Hearing Process
  • Others to be added

KHSADA LEADERSHIP TRAINING

That evening, on September 17, leaders from within the KHSADA and NIAAA will host additional leadership training for Athletic Directors. Those interested in taking a course should contact Hugh McReynolds, KHSADA Executive Director by email at hugh.mcreynolds@outlook.com or by calling 270-726-0192.

These courses will provide four hours toward the Bylaw 25 requirement for Athletic Directors.

HOUSING

For those interested, the KHSAA has secured a small block of rooms at the adjacent Hyatt Regency with a contracted rate of $139. When making reservations, refer to the group “KHSAA” at 1-800-233-1234.

In addition, the Hilton (formerly Radisson) has agreed to match that rate by calling reservations at 859-231-9000 and referencing “Annual Meeting of Schools”.

PLEASE REMEMBER EACH REGISTRATION (FOR THE DAY MEETING AND THE KHSADA SESSION) IS SEPARATE AND APART FROM THE DESIGNATION OF AN ANNUAL MEETING DELEGATE
