As mentioned in front of our member schools that were in Lexington yesterday, 9/18, at our Annual Meeting of Schools, Registration for the Fall ’25 Esports Season ends tonight at 11:59 PM League time.

Important Update on the Status of League of Legends for this Fall

At this time, we only have 9 teams statewide enrolled in League of Legends, which is well below the 20-team limit for a balanced season.

This probably isn’t a surprise to many, as it isn’t a Kentucky-specific issue, but part of the broader trend we’ve seen with League of Legends declining in popularity across the country.

To give students a better experience, if we do not get to the minimum of 20 today, we will have no choice but to consolidate KHSAA League of Legends teams into the Central Regional League. This would:

• Ensure a larger, more competitive pool of teams
• Reduce repeat matchups and BYEs
• Provide a more balanced season overall

PlayVS is already working with other states on similar adjustments, and this approach can help us see how student interests are shifting to other titles.

We have not quite hit that 20-team threshold for Street Fighter 6, which is our new title to replace NBA2K this season.  So please, if you wish to have a State Championship in Street Fighter 6, let’s get those teams onboarded today.
