With the 2026 practice season underway, we wanted to send out the following reminders to assist you.  This information is detailed in the required online rules clinic for all coaches and officials.

  • Baden is the official ball of the KHSAA (through 2029) 
  • The current ball, per NFHS rules, is a smooth ball.
  • Schedules/Rosters are required to be entered into Arbiter – Schools enter their home matches only, and any match played outside the state. 
  • Tournaments in-state hosted by a member school MUST be entered by the host site only! – using the tournament manager in Arbiter.
  • Results of matches to be reported to Arbiter – this link to the Scoreboard
  • Stats to be entered through the KHSAA System
  • Teams will remain on the same bench throughout the match
  • You cannot schedule four consecutive days – Monday-Thursday – if school is in session
  • Who can we play? Any team not located in Kentucky; Only schools in Kentucky that are members of the KHSAA; teams in Kentucky comprised of students who are home-schooled
  • Team Members – No Co-Op Teams (Players enrolled at school A and B combined to create a team)
  • Warm-Up Time Period – 4-5-5-1
  • Coaching Education Courses/Requirements– Must be 21 Years of Age
  • Match format 3/5 (regular season 2/3 mutual consent – same pay)
  • JV/F 2/3 to 21
  • Postseason roster (dress 15)

2026 BOYS’ SEASON

  • Start of Practice – February 2
  • Two Scrimmages (3-hour blocks)
  • First Contest – March 2 – 25 Regular Season
  • Last Date District Seeded Game – Wed., April 29
  • Regions – May 4-9
  • State First Round – Monday, May 11 (May 12 if both agree);
  • R1 at R3; R2 at R4; R5 at R7; R6 at R8 – Region Winner hosts
  • State Final Rounds – May 15-16 (8 teams)

About the Kentucky High School Athletic Association
The Kentucky High School Athletic Association was organized in 1917 and is the agency designated by the Kentucky Department of Education to manage high school athletics in the Commonwealth. The Association is a voluntary nonprofit 501(c)3 organization made up of 290 member schools, both public and non-public. The KHSAA awards 229 state championships to 59 teams and 178 individuals in 13 sports and six sport activities, funds catastrophic insurance coverage for its more than 109,000 rostered member school student-athletes, provides coaching education and sports safety programs for more than 12,000 coaches, and licenses and facilitates the distribution of training material for over 4,000 contest officials.
