08/30/24 – Golf Nominations Sought for Midway/KHSAA Student-Athlete of the Year

The nomination process for the Midway University/KHSAA Male and Female Student Athlete-of-the-Year among Golf participants for 2024-2025 is now open.

This award is based on athletic and academic achievement as well as community service and leadership. The link to the application contains additional criteria and a form to nominate one participant from each 2024-2025 team. Nominations must come from a member school, but can be submitted by an administrator, guidance counselor, or coach. Nominations may only be submitted online at https://khsaa.org/ge35-midway-university-khsaa-female-student-athlete-of-the-year-nomination-form/.

The winner will be announced early in the postseason and recognized at an awards event at Midway University in early summer 2025. From the winners selected for each KHSAA championship, one student-athlete will be selected as the 2024-2025 Midway University/KHSAA Student-Athlete of the Year announced at the event. All individual winners will also receive their recognition awards at that time.

The clinic is required of all coaches (varsity, junior varsity, and freshmen), regardless of whether or not the coach receives pay.

08/19/24 – MileSplit Named Online Registration Provider for KHSAA Cross Country, Track & Field

MileSplit, a division of FloSports, has entered into an agreement with the Kentucky High School Athletic Association to be the exclusive provider of online registration and live results for cross country and track & field throughout the regular season and postseason. KHSAA member schools are to exclusively use the MileSplit platform for all events including all pre-season, regular season and postseason, for the indoor, outdoor, and cross-country seasons. Standardizing registration and live scoring for scholastic events streamlines and centralizes the location of all results and performances for Kentucky high school athletes in track and field and cross country. Below are a few additional reminders for coaches or meet managers:

  • Any coach who has hosted a meet and has a meet page can upload their results quickly to the platform.
  • Results must be in flat HTML format or .txt format in order to upload correctly.

At its May meeting, the KHSAA Board of Control approved a recommended revision to the wrestling postseason dates in response to the availability of the state championship venue.

2024-25 Important Dates

  • Oct. 15 – First Practice
  • Nov. 25 – First Contest
  • Feb. 14-15 – Girls’ Regions
  • Feb. 21-22 – Boys’ Regions
  • Feb. 27 – Girls’ State Tournament
  • Feb. 28-March 1 – Boys’ State Tournament

This is also the second year of the initial two-year commitment to hold the girls’ and boys’ state tournaments on separate days at the same venue in the same weekend. The structure of the state tournament schedule will continue to be evaluated but will ensure that the girls’ event is on par with the boys’ event in terms of priority, venue and coaching resource allocation. 08/27/24 – KHSAA HYPE Student Leadership Conferences Registration Now Open

For the 24th year, the KHSAA will host its HYPE Student Leadership Conference.  Mark your calendars to plan to attend one of the two events scheduled for September 19 or September 20 as both will be held at the Central Bank Center in Lexington

WHAT IS HYPE?
HYPE is a one-day student leadership conference where students will enjoy educational interaction with each other to discuss issues and garner information to take back and share/implement with their teams and student body.  The event is staged and presented by the KHSAA Student-Athlete Group.

DATES/LOCATIONS

Thursday, September 19 – Central Bank Center (430 W. Vine St. Lexington, next to Rupp Arena)

08/26/24- 2024 Advanced Athletic Administrators Workshop-October 17

This workshop will be held in Lexington at the Central Bank Center and will offer a deep dive into current Constitution and Bylaws provisions, use of forms and operational notes. This meeting will be held on October 17, 2024. This meeting will count for six hours of the hours required for the Athletic Director’s continual improvement in Bylaw 25.

08/23/24- Additional Clarification and Guidance – WBGT and Fall Competitions

The KMA Sports Medicine Committee held a special meeting on Wednesday, August 21st to review the final pieces of the transition to Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) from the Heat Index as the measurement for when activity should be altered.
While we have thus far been blessed with an abundance of cool days this fall, we know it is still August, and competitions present challenges slightly different than practices as go forward. This has been under near constant review and discussion using the other states (particularly Georgia) that have several years of WBGT experience.

With the full implementation of the Wet Bulb Globe, many schools and officials associations have asked for additional guidance. With those requests in mind, the Sports Medicine Committee considered and recommended approval on specific measurements around competition that may slightly vary from practices. The declaration form (DA101) for the sport-activity of Dance is now open. 

The deadline to complete this form is Monday, September 30. This is for KHSAA Regional and State Competitions, so please discuss what division(s) your school will be entering as there will be no adjustments to divisions once the entries are posted. ANNUAL MEETING

This reminder that the 2024 Annual Meeting of the membership of the KHSAA is to be held on September 17 at the Central Bank Center (FKA Lexington Center). Final agenda documents are being published as they become final in the coming weeks, but the meeting is expected to begin at approximately 8:30 a.m. ET. and conclude not later than 1:00 p.m. Details and requirements for the Annual Meeting Delegate are summarized below. 08/08/24 – Board of Control Adjusts Indoor Track & Field Events

At its most recent meeting, the KHSAA Board of Control approved recommended parameters around the 2025 Indoor Track & Field Championships. The Board approved the change of indoor track competition rules to more closely align event listings with the NFHS Track & Field Rules Book. No conversions from similar events will be accepted for the 2025 season, and all qualification performances must come from the specific event.

08/08/24 – Board of Control Approves Adjustments to Competitive Cheer Game Day Divisions

At its most recent meeting, the KHSAA Board of Control approved a proposed adjustment to the Game Day division. To better align with the current UCA Game Day divisions, KHSAA will offer Small Game Day for teams with 5-19 members, and then the Large Game Day will be for teams with 20-30 members. Schools who wish to compete in the KHSAA Competitive Cheer postseason for 2024-25 will receive a notification when CC101 (Competitive Cheer Division Declaration form) is open and available.

The KHSAA will offer the following divisions for 2024-2025: 

  • Small All-Girl (Traditional 2.5 Minute): minimum 5, maximum of 15
  • Medium All-Girl (Traditional 2.5 Minute): minimum 16, maximum of 19
  • Large All-Girl (Traditional 2.5 Minute): minimum 20, maximum of 23,

08/08/24 – Board of Control Approves Adjustments to Squad Sizes in Dance

At its most recent meeting, the KHSAA Board of Control approved proposed changes to the Dance State Championship entry. The maximum squad size limit in all divisions was adjusted to 40 to align with the Universal Dance Association competitions. In the future, for KHSAA competition, if the individual dance competition styles have an average of 40 entries in at least three consecutive years statewide, the KHSAA will further divide that category into multiple divisions. Schools who wish to compete in the KHSAA Dance postseason for 2024-25 will receive a notification when DA101 (Dance Division Declaration form) is open and available. 

The KHSAA will offer the following divisions for 2024-2025:

08/06/24 – Board revises and finalizes Boys’ Volleyball Season Limitations

The Board of Control, at its August meeting, revised and finalized the limitation of season for boys’ volleyball beginning in the Spring of 2025. 

At its meeting in May the Board had set the match count limit at 18.  Upon further review, this was adjusted to permit a total of 25 matches.

(NFHS Calendar Playing Weeks)
Practice start – Monday of Week 31;
Contests start – Monday of Week 35;
Match limit – 25 (all matches count the same to ward the limit);
Number of Regions – TBD based on school response data; 
Postseason–Two rounds for 2025;
Postseason start–Monday of Week 45; and
Postseason finish–Saturday/Sunday of Week 46.

The KHSAA Board of Control conducted its first regularly scheduled meeting of the 2024-25 academic year on Friday in Newport, approving a review of proposals to be considered at the 2024 Annual Meeting and approving competition rules information regarding three sports and two sport-activities.

A two-day series of meetings began with an orientation for new and returning Board members and then launched into the full Board work session on Thursday, followed by the conducting of Friday’s full Board meeting. The Board and staff welcomed new Board members Noel Crum of Stambaugh, Chuck Mullins of Hazard and Coy Samons of Murray, as well as new Assistant Commissioner Abby Jackson.
