07/18/25 – NFHS Announces Girls’ Lacrosse Playing Rule Changes
Five Rules Changes Approved For 2026 High School Girls’ Lacrosse Season
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
INDIANAPOLIS – Improving game flow and pace of play are the primary focuses of the 2026 high school girls’ lacrosse rules changes.
Five rules changes were recommended by the NFHS Girls’ Lacrosse Rules Committee during its annual meeting last June at The Alexander in Indianapolis. All proposals were later approved by the NFHS Board of Directors.
A change to Rule 5-2 Penalty 1 (Starting Play – Draw) allows any player to take the free position when one player draws illegally. Also, for Rule 7-3 Penalties 1a and 3a (Deputy Rules), the offending player shall be placed 4 meters away (instead of behind) from the player taking the free position for a goal circle foul.
Rule 4-3-3d, e, aligns the restart procedure after a possession time-out when the goalkeeper has possession of the ball […]

Addition of Javelin Specifications Highlight High School Track & Field Rules Revisions
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
INDIANAPOLIS – With 21 state associations now incorporating the javelin into outdoor track & field competition, the NFHS Track & Field Rules Committee voted to move the implement construction specifications into the Track & Field Rules Book, effective with the 2026 season.
The addition of javelin specifications was one of 11 changes recommended by the committee at its June meeting in Indianapolis, all of which were subsequently approved by the NFHS Board of Directors.
“Moving the implement construction specifications for the javelin into the rules book provides greater clarity, consistency and accessibility for high school coaches, athletes and meet officials,” said Julie Cochran, NFHS director of sports and liaison to the Track & Field Rules Committee. “By incorporating the construction requirements directly into the NFHS Track & Field Rules Book, we ensure that all […]

Electronic Communication by Players Clarified in High School Softball
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
INDIANAPOLIS – No player shall be allowed to transmit or record audio or video from the playing surface in high school softball. This new language in Rule 1-8-6 of the NFHS Softball Rules Book further clarifies the use of electronic devices and what is permitted in the sport after language was added last year to allow for electronic communication for coaching purposes.
This change was the highlight of the NFHS Softball Rules Committee’s rules recommendations as a result of the committee’s annual rules meeting held last June at The Alexander hotel in Indianapolis. The NFHS Board of Directors subsequently approved the rules changes to take effect next year.
“While increased media exposure has positively influenced the growth and visibility of softball, the committee determined that the potential risks associated with players transmitting or recording audio or video through devices […]
07/15/25 – KHSAA360: Importing New Students for 2025-26
A quick reminder for those schools that do not use Arbiter Registration, you can import incoming 7th graders (and any other new students) into your Eligibility>Student List. This may save you time, especially for a larger school. Remember that new students must be on the student list in order for them to be selected on individual rosters. To import: Download the template from the Student list
then:
This is a view of a template:
As long as you can get an export from any student system that you are using, you can simply copy and paste into those columns. You can enter as much information as you want, but obviously, you would need to at least import the basics of student ID, name, and graduating […]
07/15/25 – NFHS Announces Boys’ Lacrosse Playing Rule Changes
12 Rules Changes Approved Ahead of 2026 High School Boys’ Lacrosse Season
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
INDIANAPOLIS – Among the changes for the 2026 high school boys’ lacrosse season, no defensive player other than a properly equipped goalkeeper can enter the team’s own crease with the perceived intent of blocking a shot or acting as a goalkeeper, or a personal foul for illegal equipment will be called as a non-releasable foul.
This topic highlighted 12 rules changes recommended by the NFHS Boys Lacrosse Rules Committee during its annual meeting last June at The Alexander in Indianapolis. All proposed changes were subsequently accepted by the NFHS Board of Directors.
The changes to Rules 4-18-4 PENALTY, 5-6-2 (NEW), 5-10 and 6-6-4 minimize risk of injury by discouraging players who are not properly equipped from acting as a goalkeeper by making the penalty more severe.
Relatedly, goalkeepers will no longer be given a maximum of five seconds […]

Double First Base Introduced into High School Baseball
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
INDIANAPOLIS – Beginning with the 2027 season, a double first base will be required in high school baseball games to minimize the risk of collisions by runners and fielders.
This rule revision was one of 10 proposed by the NFHS Baseball Rules Committee during its annual meeting held last June at The Alexander hotel in Indianapolis. The rules changes were accepted by the NFHS Board of Directors.
New language was added to Rule 1-2-9, noting that the double first base must be white and a contrasting solid color. The white portion of the base is located in fair territory, while the colored half is located in foul territory, split by the first base foul line. There is to be no space between the two portions of the double base.
“Adding the double first base is symbolic […]

Rosters have been rolled from the previous year, and may now be edited for the coming seasons as well as sport and sport-activity offerings.
Important Reminder:

06/16/2025 – Coaching Eligibility for the 2025-26 School Year is now available
2025-2026 Coaching Eligibility is now available. Many schools had hired new coaches in the previous school year and correctly added them to the 2025-2026 rosters on your Resources > Team page.
As of July 1, every team’s coaches and varsity athletes have been moved over to the 2025-2026 rosters (minus any Class of ’25 graduating seniors).
When you go to your team rosters, you will see that they now default to 2025-2026. You will need to go through your 2025-2026 rosters and remove any coaches that are not coaching this upcoming school year.
Initially, KHSAA and Arbiter staff thought that we would shrink the Sport Safety course down to one module. Unfortunately, that did not work as intended, so it has been reverted to eight individual courses. We were still able to clean up the dashboard and shrink the number of columns from three to one.
Below you will find reminders on how both […]

The list includes the top 22 times/performances in each running event. This is in addition to the field event results.

05/22/25 – Class 1A Region 1 Running Events to be Rerun
Due to a variety of meet, administrative and technical errors with the timing and results process, all Class 1A Region 1 running events must be rerun.
The KHSAA office and state meet officials, including the software company, have conducted a lengthy review to try and solve the issues and find an alternative solution. Unfortunately, none of the running events were timed in the correct format. Accurate performance records are not available or able to be reconstructed, dramatically reducing alternative options. We have also consulted with the NFHS to be certain that the final determination is compliant with Federation rules. With at-large state qualifiers at stake, it is also vital to ensure fairness and transparency for the other six regions in Class 1A.
After an emergency Zoom meeting with the member schools in the region, it has been determined that the best path forward is for the meet to be […]

Goaltending, Basket Interference Addressed in 2025-26 Basketball Rules Changes
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
INDIANAPOLIS – A trio of changes to address when goaltending and basket interference are called are among the changes to high school basketball rules for the 2025-26 season.
These revisions to the NFHS Basketball Rules Book are among the six changes recommended by the Basketball Rules Committee during its April 28-30 meeting in Indianapolis, all of which were subsequently approved by the NFHS Board of Directors.
Rule 4-22-3 has been added to indicate that a ball is considered to be on its downward flight once it contacts the backboard on a legitimate shot attempt. Therefore, it is goaltending if a defensive player touches the ball after it contacts the backboard. Prior to this change, an official determined if a shot attempt was still ascending and out of the cylinder before goaltending could be called.
“By establishing that a ball is considered […]
