The KHSAA Board of Control conducted its fourth regularly scheduled meeting of the 2023-24 academic year on Wednesday in Lexington, approving status reports regarding upcoming winter state championships and items for possible action at a later meeting.

Following a data review conducted by KHSAA staff, the inaugural Girls’ Wrestling State Championships in February will be preceded by multi-region meets at Caldwell County (Regions 1-2), Central (Regions 3-4), Bryan Station (Regions 5-6) and Montgomery County (Regions 7-8). Due to the difference in participation numbers of teams and individuals, the pattern of regions and sites will differ between girls’ and boys’ competitions. Girls’ wrestling participation is on the rise in the first year of sanctioning a state championship, however, growing from 378 registered girls’ wrestlers in 2022-23 to 586 participants this season.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: OCT. 6, 2023

As part of its annual awards program, the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Coaches Association recognizes Coach of the Year honorees from each state. Those named Coach of the Year at the state level then advance for consideration for Sectional Coach of the Year honors. Winners are chosen through a combination of their coaching accomplishments, particularly for the season in question, as well as their contributions outside of competition to help grow their respective sports. These awards are announced following the recognized year.

09/27/23 – Clarifications about Participation in Individual Sports

The KHSAA has received several inquiries pertaining to the participation in individual sports against home school students, club teams, students from other non-member schools or unattached/unaffiliated athletes from its member schools. It is the member school’s responsibility to understand the Bylaw 23 restrictions (Limitation of Seasons) and who the athletes are competing against;

KHSAA Member schools cannot compete against schools or teams located in Kentucky who are eligible to join the KHSAA but have decided not to do so at this time.

09/29/23 – Tee Times Published for State Golf Final Round

Tee Times for the 2023 Leachman Buick•GMC•Cadillac/KHSAA Boys’ and Girls’ Golf State Final Round presented by UK HealthCare have been posted to the KHSAA website (https://khsaa.org/sports-activities-events/fall/golf/) and can be found on the golf page under the dropdown menu for State Finals Rounds Golf Information.

Tickets to the events are available for purchase online (https://gofan.co/app/school/KHSAA), with a discounted $12 advance ticket (including fees) available prior to the day of each round. For those who wait to purchase on the day of the round, only the $14 Game Day ticket will be available. Tickets to the event are only available online. There will be no cash sales at Bowling Green Country Club.

09/23/23 – Fall State Championships to Begin On Golf Course

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: SEPT. 23, 2023

The 2023-24 KHSAA state championship season will kick off with the 2023 Leachman Buick•GMC•Cadillac Golf State Championships presented by UK HealthCare. The multi-week event will begin Sept. 25-27 with first-round competition at three separate sites, including Calvert City Country Club (Regions 1-4), the Willows at Kenton County Golf Courses in Independence (Regions 5-8) and Winchester Country Club (Regions 9-12).

For the 18th consecutive season, the event will conclude at Bowling Green Country Club, where the girls’ finals will run Oct. 2-4 and the boys’ finals will take place Oct. 5-7.

Tickets are required for all spectators at each round of competition and are available online only at khsaatickets.org. There will be no on-site cash or credit card sales, and fans are encouraged to purchase their tickets in advance at a discounted price to expedite the admission process.

09/22/23 – Media Credentials Now Available for Fall Championships

The KHSAA’s online media credentialing system for fall state championships (golf, field hockey, soccer, cross country, volleyball, football) is now live and can be accessed via the following link: credentials.khsaa.org

Credentials to each KHSAA state championship event are issued by the KHSAA to working members of the media who regularly cover high school athletics. Credentials must be requested prior to the established deadline for each sport through the online credentialing system.

Credentials should be requested by the sports editor/director for all members of their organization needing to attend an event. Credentials for freelance photographers and stringers must be requested by the sports editor/director at the outlet the freelancer will be representing. Media outlets are responsible for the actions of all individuals representing their organization, including compliance with KHSAA policies and procedures. 09/06/23 – Golf Nominations Sought for Midway/KHSAA Student-Athlete of the Year

The nomination process for the Midway University/KHSAA Male and Female Student Athlete-of-the-Year among Golf participants for 2023-2024 is now open.

This award is based on athletic and academic achievement as well as community service and leadership. The link to the application contains additional criteria and a form to nominate one participant from each 2023-2024 team. Nominations must come from a member school, but can be submitted by an administrator, guidance counselor, or coach. Nominations may only be submitted online at https://khsaa.org/ge35-midway-university-khsaa-female-student-athlete-of-the-year-nomination-form/.

The winner will be announced early in the postseason and recognized at an awards event at Midway University in early summer 2024. From the winners selected for each KHSAA championship, one student-athlete will be selected as the 2023-2024 Midway University/KHSAA Student-Athlete of the Year announced at the event. 08/28/23 – Golf Regional Instructions Available and Postseason Reminders

Instructions for participating in the upcoming regional golf championships have been published online at KHSAA.org (https://ly.khsaa.org/mymw). All coaches and competing schools should take the time to review the instructions carefully, even veteran coaches, to ensure familiarity with all KHSAA rules and regulations regarding these events.

As a reminder, any coach listed on the school directory who has met the KHSAA Coaching requirements (Rules Clinic, CPR, Sports Safety, Coaching Education, etc.) will be eligible to coach during the postseason. However, only one coach may give advice to a student-athlete at a time.

Entries must be submitted using the GF101 form contained within the instructions and referenced below. Regional managers are copied on the entry submissions to assist with the preparation of pairings.

The mandatory online KHSAA Rules Clinic for the sport of Golf is available through the KHSAA School Log-in Page. The clinic is required of all coaches (varsity, junior varsity, and freshmen), regardless of whether or not the coach receives pay.

Good afternoon to all member schools. This message is intended for all member schools based on multiple inquiries received in the last few days. Please share this with all members of your fall sports coaching staff, and the coaches of Competitive Cheer and Dance. This post is not intended to be comprehensive regarding all aspects of Bylaw 23, but intended to highlight areas around tryouts.

References for this information come from the Bylaws of the Association, online as part of the KHSAA Handbook. There is not (and has never been) a separate tryout period for fall sports prior to the start of practice. Recently, we have been made aware that several schools have posted “tryouts” for fall sports that are being held prior to the first date of practice. This is not permitted.

06/06/23 – Johnson, Ferree Named 2022-23 Midway/KHSAA Student-Athletes of the Year

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: JUNE 6, 2023

The 2022-23 Midway University/KHSAA Student-Athlete of the Year awards program culminated this week on the campus of Midway University, as Rafaella Johnson of Elizabethtown (Cross Country) and George Ferree of Trinity (Louisville) (Wrestling) were recognized as the overall Student-Athletes of the Year.

Beginning in May 2016, Midway has presented a Female Student-Athlete of the Year award at each KHSAA girls’ state championship event. The awards program was expanded in 2019-20 to include male student-athletes, with Midway honoring a deserving student-athlete in each of the 19 officially recognized KHSAA sports and sport-activities.

The awards are based on athletic and academic achievement, as well as community service and leadership, with Midway choosing one overall Male and Female Student-Athlete of the Year each academic year. School administrators, coaches and athletic directors nominate student-athletes online at khsaa.org, and the nominees are voted upon by a closed panel consisting of representatives from Midway.

05/11/23 – Board Approves Future Golf State First Round Sites

The KHSAA Board of Control, at its annual May meeting, approved additional Golf State First Round Sites. The Board’s goal is to establish at minimum a three-year advance rotation to assist coaches in future planning for course access leading up to the events.

05/10/23 – Board of Control Accepts Reports of Member Survey Results, State Legislation, Officials Licensing

The KHSAA Board of Control conducted its final regularly scheduled meeting of the 2022-23 academic year on Wednesday in Lexington, accepting reports of several member surveys and ballots regarding both new and existing championship sports and sport-activities, as well as reports of Kentucky state legislation and officials licensing.

After officially approving the adoption of girls’ wrestling for the 2023-24 academic year during last February’s Board meeting, on Wednesday the Board approved the return of the KHSAA Wrestling State Championships to Alltech Arena at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington through 2024-25 to be held as a three-day event each year.

The Board approved the adoption of boys’ and girls’ tennis team state championships in the spring, along with the existing individually bracketed tennis tournament, beginning with the 2023-24 academic year. 03/22/23 – Future Golf State First Round Sites Solicitation

The KHSAA is seeking Golf Courses and schools to serve as sites and hosts for future Golf State First Rounds.

The KHSAA Staff and Board, working with Golf House of Kentucky staff, is seeking a three-year advance selection for playing seasons 2024, 2025, and 2026.

The third and final site for the 2023 season was finalized during the Board’s February meeting with Winchester Country Club slated to host Site #3. Previously announced were Calvert City Country Club (Site #1) and Kenton County Courses (Willows Course – Site #2). Hopkinsville Country Club was previously approved to serve as Host Site #1 for 2024.

02/22/23 – Board of Control Approves Adoption of Girls’ Wrestling

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: FEB. 22, 2023

The KHSAA Board of Control conducted its fifth regularly scheduled meeting of the 2022-23 academic year on Wednesday in Lexington, approving the adoption of girls’ wrestling, the solicitation of a site to hold the boys’ and girls’ wrestling tournaments consecutively, specifications for KHSAA Golf State First Round sites and the election of the 2023-24 Board President-Elect.

The adoption of girls’ wrestling will be effective in the 2023-24 academic year. As a result of the Board’s approval, the KHSAA Commissioner has been tasked with finalizing logistics for a state championship in girls wrestling with two or four state-managed qualifying sites, as well as finalizing negotiations to find, if possible, a potential consolidated site following a survey of the membership on scheduling implications.

02/07/23 – Board Finalizes Golf State First Round Sites for 2023

As was released following the KHSAA Board of Control meeting in January, the Board finalized the third of three State First Round Golf Sites for 2023. Winchester Country Club, which was Site #3 host in 2022, will again be State First Round Site #3 for the upcoming year.

Calvert City Country Club had previously been announced as Site #1 and Kenton County Golf Courses (Willow Course) in Independence had been announced as Site #2.

The Board, based on feedback from the previous year, will be finalizing specs to host at its February meeting and seeking to confirm sites for a three-year rotation at its May meeting. Hopkinsville Country Club (Site #1) is the only previously announced site for 2024.

The KHSAA will be working with Golf House of Kentucky in identifying future sites. Those interested should contact the KHSAA.

01/18/23 – Board of Control Approves Football Realignment, RPI Revision, Jenkins Placement in Region 14

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: JAN. 18, 2023

The KHSAA Board of Control conducted its fourth regularly scheduled meeting of the 2022-23 academic year on Wednesday in Lexington, approving football realignment and revisions to the RPI calculations, as well as the placement of Jenkins in Region 14 for basketball, baseball, softball and volleyball.

The Board’s approved football realignment will be effective during the 2023 and 2024 seasons. The current enrollment data used for the 2023 and 2024 classifications are from the 2019-20 and 2022-23 school years. Following significant discussion, the Board elected to adopt a two-year alignment so that the realignment process could begin anew next year (in conjunction with the receipt of fall 2023 enrollment numbers) to allow completion by February 2024, giving schools more than one year to resolve scheduling issues for 2025 and beyond.

11/16/22 – Board of Control Approves Items Passed at Annual Meeting, Distribution of Enrollment Information, Wrestling State First Round Site

The KHSAA Board of Control conducted its third regularly scheduled meeting of the 2022-23 academic year on Wednesday in Lexington, approving items passed at the 2022 Annual Meeting of Schools and the authorization to distribute enrollment information to be used in classification upon receipt from Kentucky Department of Education, as well as the recommendation for Atherton to host the 2023 Wrestling State First Round for Regions 1-4.

On Sept. 22, the KHSAA conducted its Annual Meeting at the Central Bank Center in Lexington. 10/02/22 – Leachman/KHSAA Golf State Finals Head to Bowling Green

The state championship slate for the 2022-23 academic year will crown its first champions with the finals of the 2022 Leachman Buick•GMC•Cadillac Golf State Championships Presented by UK HealthCare this week at the Bowling Green Country Club. This is the 17th consecutive season the KHSAA has brought its championships to the club. The boys’ tournament is up first with the opening round at 8 a.m. CT on Tuesday, Oct. 4, followed by the final round starting at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 5. Girls’ action begins on Friday, Oct. 7, with championship play wrapping up on Saturday, Oct. 8.

The KHSAA Board of Control conducted its final regularly scheduled meeting of the 2021-22 academic year this week at the KHSAA Office, approving a variety of items that affect 2022-23 and beyond.

The Board agreed in principle to extend the Girls’ Basketball Sweet 16® host site agreement with Rupp Arena at Central Bank Center through 2028, matching the venue’s current agreement to host the Boys’ Basketball Sweet 16® through the same season.

Rather than directly author any proposed Bylaw changes for this fall, the Board directed the Commissioner to assist member schools in such authorship if so desired by the membership.

The Board adjusted the schedule of dates for the 2022 Volleyball State Championship to assist schools with travel costs in light of weekend housing costs surrounding the 2022 Breeders’ Cup, with the quarterfinal through finals rounds being played on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 3-4.

As part of its annual awards program, the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Coaches Association recognizes Coach of the Year honorees from each state. 10/08/21- Changes in COVID-19 RTA/RTP Implemented Per SMAC Guidance

As they have done since the start of the pandemic, the Sports Medicine Advisory Committee (SMAC) composed of Kentucky Medical Association (KMA) member doctors has held multiple special meetings to continually review the Return to Play Guidance and Recommendations (RTA/RTP). The state championship slate for the 2021-22 academic year gets started next week with the 2021 Leachman Buick•GMC•Cadillac/KHSAA State Golf Championships (Oct. 4-9) at the Bowling Green Country Club. This is the 16th-consecutive season the KHSAA has brought its championships to the club. The girls’ tournament is up first with the opening round at 7 a.m. CT on Tuesday, Oct. 5, followed by the final 18 holes starting at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 6. The Board of Control held its second meeting of the 2021-22 academic year on Wednesday at the KHSAA offices, during which it approved a draft wrestling alignment that will go into effect for the 2021-22 season.

After considering multiple options and reviewing past participation information, the Board approved a Final Alignment Map of Teams to be implemented for 2021-22. The KHSAA website will be updated in the coming days to reflect the adopted alignment.

The nomination process for the Midway University/KHSAA Male and Female Student-Athlete of the Year among golf participants for 2021-2022 is now open.

This award is based on athletic and academic achievement as well as community service and leadership. The link to the application contains additional criteria and a form to nominate one participant from each 2021-2022 team. Nominations must come from a member school, but can be submitted by an administrator, guidance counselor, or coach. The Board of Control conducted its final meeting of the 2020-21 academic year on Wednesday at the KHSAA Offices, during which time it addressed the football playoff structure after reviewing the results of a recent survey of the membership.

Following a presentation by the Football Coaches Association at its previous meeting regarding its preference for bracketing in the first two rounds of the playoffs, the board directed staff to seek a position from the official spokesperson from each member school (Principal or Designated Representative) per Bylaw 1 via a survey of the football playing schools.

The Board of Control originally changed football bracketing prior to the 2019 season to conduct play intra-district for those rounds, partially due to travel and financial concerns with those contests in prior years. The first state championship of the 2020-21 academic year will take place next week, as the 2020 Leachman Buick•GMC•Cadillac/KHSAA State Golf Championships (Oct. 5-10) return to the Bowling Green Country Club for the 15th-consecutive season. The boys’ tournament begins with the opening round at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 6, followed by the second 18 holes on Wednesday, Oct. 7. The girls’ championship opens with first round action on Friday, Oct. 9, with the final 18 holes slated for Saturday, Oct. 10.

The KHSAA will utilize Golf Genius for its scoring software this year, with one player in each group entering scores from a mobile device following each hole. The KHSAA Board of Control held its second regularly-scheduled meeting of the 2020-21 academic year Wednesday morning, approving practice and competition dates for the winter sports and sport-activities of basketball, bowling, competitive cheer, dance, swimming & diving, and wrestling.

Bowling is permitted to practice on November 2. Competitive cheer and dance can begin official practice for its seasons this Monday, September 21 with a gradual segmented approach to activity over the next few weeks. Further details will be distributed to the member schools that allow for the resumption. 07/27/20 – Student-Athlete Participation Rises for the 3rd Straight Year to New Record Totals

Student-athlete participation increased for the third-straight year in Kentucky High School Athletic Association sports and sport-activities to reach record levels in 2019-20. A total of 107,166 rostered participants competed across the KHSAA’s 13 sports and six sport-activities according to information submitted by the membership, surpassing last year’s then-record total of 106,931. Football was one of 12 offerings to show an increase from the previous year, breaking a trend of declining participation for the last three years by adding 202 new student-athletes [freshmen, JV, varsity] during the 2019-20 season to remain the state’s most popular sport with 13,277 rostered participants.

During the course of its meeting, the Board approved a recommendation to extend the guidance and allowances for Segment 3 of the document issued for summer play in KHSAA sports and sport-activities through Sunday, August 2, except for the sport of golf.

This information is in effect, as stated below, through April 30, 2020. Prior to that time, revised guidance and policy will be issued to be effective May 1 as we all collectively work to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus on our campuses and among our athletes and coaches. 03/16/20- Update on KHSAA Office Opening/Closing and Staff Availability

In partnership with our State Department of Education, the Governor’s office, our member schools, the NFHS and similar to many other state associations, KHSAA staff has been directed to work remotely from home until at least April 10 (revised 4/2/20). Administrators will available via email. Our hope is to return to the office for regular hours later in April, however, this is a very fluid situation and could change at any time. Updates will be posted online.

As of now and through at least May 1, all activity by rostered participants, coaches and those who have participated in at least one practice session for a middle or high school remain shut down as do all athletic facilities in control of our membership. With substantial changes to the Rules of Golf adopted in January, the KHSAA is partnering with the Kentucky Golf Coaches Association and Golf House of Kentucky to conduct an in-person rules clinic for all coaches on Saturday, June 15 at the KHSAA Office in Lexington.

The clinic will begin at 1:30 p.m. (ET) and include information normally featured in the annual online rules clinic while also allowing an opportunity for coaches to interact with Golf House of Kentucky officials and obtain a better understanding of the rules changes. In addition, Golf House of Kentucky will showcase a newly developed Pace of Play video and will discuss tips and strategies for improving the pace of play.

The rules clinic will continue to be available online for those that cannot attend.

With the Board of Control’s changes to the golf alignment beginning in 2019-20, it necessitates a request from the office the regional tournament sites and managers for the 2019 tournaments. Schools are reminded that venues/managers interested in hosting the event should complete the request to host event form (GE59-Application for Hosting).

For those not listed that may have been working on sites/serving as managers and you are no longer in the region, contact the designated representatives of the schools in the region to update them to seek approval of the venue/manager.

03/19/19- Golf Realignment and Format Status

September, 2018 – Board begins discussions surrounding golf realignment and tournament qualification.

Realignment was viewed as long overdue and the Board and staff have spent a great deal of time discussing the state golf tournament and the best way to qualify teams and individuals.
The membership through its Principals and Designated Representatives had expressed a desire through various meetings to have the boys and girls in golf in the same region.
For several years, golf had twelve regions for boys and eleven for girls.
In addition, the Kentucky Golf House had worked with staff and participants to emphasis pace of play at the state tournament in a variety of ways. The staff and Board of Control were aware of this concern, but primarily to the extent that the rounds of golf could be completed each day and not require stayovers to finish incomplete rounds.

02/19/19 – Board of Control Addresses Future Postseason Formats for Fall Championships

The Board of Control reviewed postseason formats and state qualifying for several fall sports during its meeting at the KHSAA Offices on Tuesday. Changes to the state golf qualifying process and golf alignment were among the topics discussed, along with the implementation of the RPI during the Football postseason and a revision of the semi-state round for the soccer postseason.

The final action in revising the golf regional alignment, as well as state tournament qualifying, completes nearly a full year of review of the manner in which the postseason championships are conducted in the sport. 01/16/19 – Board of Control Sets Sites for State Softball and State Archery; Reviews Football Playoff Format

In its first meeting of the new year on Wednesday at the KHSAA Offices, the Board of Control finalized locations for two spring championships while addressing the future playoff structure for football and continuing its research for future revisions to state golf.

Following last year’s action by the Board to transition the state softball tournament from a double-elimination format to single elimination, create an eight-team state tournament and a semi-state round, KHSAA staff sent out information to prospective cities interested in hosting the event. After reviewing information and options from both Lexington and Louisville, the Board approved a recommendation to award the 2019 and 2020 State Softball Championships to the University of Kentucky’s John Cropp Stadium.

It is recommended that this information is shared with all those that are interested, including coaches while realizing that any official response from the member school should come from the Designated Representative per Bylaw 1.

For its last two meetings, and beginning with discussion during the 2017-18 school year, the Board of Control has been reviewing the golf program within the Association. Realignment is long overdue and the Board and staff have spent a great deal of time discussing the state golf tournament and the best way to qualify teams and individuals. The current system has been in place for many years, and certainly merits review.

11/14/18 – Board of Control Adjusts 2019 Fall Seasons, Sets State Championship Sites

During the course of its meeting at the KHSAA Offices on Wednesday, the Board of Control made adjustments to the 2019 fall sports seasons and finalized sites for this year’s State Baseball and Swimming & Diving Championships.

For the last several years prior to 2018, the soccer, volleyball and cross country seasons all culminated on the same weekend. With volleyball moving a week earlier in 2018 to avoid a conflict in Louisville with the Breeders’ Cup, the Association had the opportunity to reevaluate the structure of its seasons while also looking to alleviate concerns with competitions on ACT test dates.

The KHSAA’s online media credentialing system for the Fall Sports Championships is now live, and can be accessed by going to credentials.khsaa.org.

Credentials to each KHSAA state championship event are issued by the KHSAA to working members of the media that regularly cover high school athletics. Credentials must be requested prior to the established deadline for each sport through the online credentialing system (credentials.khsaa.org).

Credentials should be requested by the sports editor/director for all members of his/her organization needing to attend an event. Credentials for freelance photographers and stringers must be requested by the sports editor/director at the outlet the freelancer will be representing. No credentials will be issued outside of the online credentialing system. The KHSAA reserves the right to limit the quantity of credentials issued to media outlets when space is at a premium.

The nomination process for the Midway University/KHSAA Female Student-Athlete of the Year for girls’ golf is now open.

Nominations must come from a member school, but may be submitted by an administrator, guidance counselor, or coach. Nominations may only be submitted online at http://khsaa.org/ge79-midway-universitykhsaa-female-student-athlete-of-the-year-nomination-form/

The winner will be presented her award at a banquet at Midway University in May 2019.

Deadline for nominations for girls’ golf will be Friday, Sept. 14.

Administrators, Golf Coaches and participants are reminded of the KHSAA Board of Control Adopted Policy with regard to Severe Weather and Lightning.

At the first sound of thunder or first sight of lightning, play must be suspended and participants and coaches are to seek shelter. All play is suspended for 30 minutes and each subsequent sound of thunder or sight of lightning would reset the 30 minute waiting period.

04/22/16 – Reminder Bylaw 23 Limitation of Seasons

This is a reminder to all administrators and coaches concerning Bylaw 23, Limitation of Seasons. KHSAA staff members have received several inquiries about permitted activity, specifically concerning fall sports and practice/tryouts for the fall. The same principle and rule would apply to any “tryout” in any sport or sport-activity that is not held during the period defined by Bylaw 23.

The first official tryout/practice date for 2016 football is July 10. For the other fall sports/sport-activities (Soccer, Golf, Field Hockey, Volleyball, Cross Country, Competitive Cheer), the first official practice date is July 15. Only after these dates can anything mandatory be required of team members or potential team members.

Until the day following the last day of school or May 31 (whichever is earliest), coaches are permitted to provide instruction and be involved with team members (provided such is approved by the principal), but continue to be restricted in “competitive” situations with other schools unless they are […]

Only those students who are indicated with a checkmark in the “postseason roster” column are eligible to compete in KHSAA sanctioned postseason competition. The following are quick reminders to take the steps necessary to complete this task, and will only work if you have administrator rights (principal/AD) or coach that has roster rights granted by an administrator:

On the school’s login menu (http://schools.khsaa.org/), click on the link that says maintain specific team roster.
Select the green box for the varsity team, and you will see the current roster of the varsity displayed.
At the top or bottom of that listing, click on assign/unassign players.

10/01/15 – Pairings Set for 2015 Leachman Buick•GMC•Cadillac/KHSAA Golf Championships

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: October 1, 2015

The first state championships of the 2015-16 season will be contested next week with the 2015 Leachman Buick•GMC•Cadillac/KHSAA Boys’ and Girls’ Golf Championships at the Bowling Green Country Club. The boys’ golf championship opens the week with a practice round on Monday, Oct. 5th and 18 holes of competition on both Tuesday, Oct. 6th and Wednesday, Oct. 7th. The girls’ championship begins with a practice round on Thursday, Oct. 8th, followed by first round action on Friday, Oct. 9th and the final round on Saturday, Oct. 10th.

Riherds.com, a Kentucky-based company headquartered in Smiths Grove specializing in trophies, awards, name tags and signs, will provide the “Above and Beyond” award at each KHSAA state championship event for 2015-16. Riherds.com is proud to be the Official Supplier of Trophies and Awards to the Kentucky High School Athletic Association.

The award is given to a participant at each KHSAA championship event and will be awarded from the pool of candidates nominated by participating school representatives. The award is based on five attributes: Citizenship, Leadership, Athletics, Sportsmanship and Scholarship.

Nominated students should exemplify these five attributes by:

Playing the game/competition by the rules.
Treating game officials, coaches and competitors with due respect as fellow human beings.
Taking victory and defeat without undue emotionalism.
Controlling of tempers at all times on and off the playing field.
Being positive with officials, coaches and competitors, without criticism for things that occur during the contest.
Cooperating with the coaches, officials and fellow players in trying to promote good sportsmanship.

09/04/15 – Reminder about Heat Index/Drones at Competition

This notice is being sent to all member schools and specific licensed officials.

HEAT INDEX
While we have been blessed with a relatively cool summer, such is likely not to be the case this weekend and early next week. Keep in mind that the Heat Index regulations are always in place, with mandatory recording of temperatures and humidities to determine if any activity needs to change. The quick reference chart is located at http://khsaa.org/sportsmedicine/heat/heatindexchartcolor.pdf but schools as always are responsible for complete policy adherence, not just what is on the chart.

For Field Hockey, Soccer, Cross Country, Golf and even Volleyball (if played in a facility without air conditioning), all play must be suspended when the Heat Index reaches 104 degress. When the heat index is above 99, mandatory water breaks every 30 minutes for at least 10 minutes in duration are required, along with all other stipulations in the heat index guidelines.
