11/27/13 – Part Two Exam Notice
The Part 2 Exam will be available online beginning December 2nd through midnight Eastern Time on Sunday, December 15. Login to http://officials.khsaa.org/authorize/ to take the test. A minimum score of 80 on the exam is required to be assigned to officiate postseason play. If you have forgotten your password, click on the blue “click here” in the first line on the login page. 11/21/13 – Changes to Track Site Selection Plan
After fantastic feedback on the Cross Country Super Regionals and a great crowd and weather at the state Cross Country meet, we feel it is time to catch everyone up on what has been going on behind the scenes in regards to track regional sites.
Schools received a notice from the Commissioner after the last Board of Control meeting explaining possible regional dates and a waiver for possible competition after a regional (in case you missed it choose this link http://khsaa.org/111313-revision-in-track-and-field-season-2014-only/). Additionally the Commissioner and I have spoken with many of you with regard to hosting multiple track regions at a like single site. We recognize that not all of the pieces of the puzzle were fitting as nicely as they did for Cross Country and took a second look at host sites.

11/21/13 – Wrestling Rule Interpretation
We have had a request for a ruling on the use of an ‘MMA Style’ headgear. The ‘MMA Style’ headgear is considered ILLEGAL equipment and is not approved to use in Kentucky per the NFHS. If a contestant shows up with this style headgear during competition then it should be handled as any other ILLEGAL Equipment (Start Injury Time, issue a Technical Violation and they have 1.30 to correct).11/15/13 – State Cross Country Photos

11/13/13- Revision in Track and Field Season, 2014 ONLY
At the November 11, 2013 meeting, the KHSAA Board of Control approved an allowance for Track and Field teams for the 2014 season only, to allow normal “regular season” meets to be run AFTER the regional meets, provided these regular season meets are held on or prior to May 17 and provided no school competes in more than 19 meets (not including the region and state). This allowance is further explained below, and is a situation specific to 2014 due to the likely involvement of more than fifty percent of the licensed Track and Field officials as the University of Kentucky hosts the SEC Outdoor championships on May 15-17, 2014.

11/13/13- Assignment of Postseason Basketball Officials, 2014-2016
The Commissioner has announced the assignment designation for officials for postseason basketball tournaments for the 2013-2014 through 2015-2016 playing seasons. This announcement continues the recent practice of advising both local associations and the member schools as to which local association will service postseason play in specific regions, and the information was provided to the Board of Control at its September meeting. The Association in the top row will provide game officials for the region listed below that association number during the designated year. 11/12/13 – Ejections Down Following Emphasis on Sportsmanship; Board Approves Realignment of 15th Region For 2014-15

The Board of Control conducted its November meeting at the KHSAA offices on Monday. Among the various items addressed during the meeting was a discussion on the emphasis placed on sportsmanship across the state and the significant reduction in ejections in football and soccer.
During the period between October 8th and the end of the regular season, compared to the same time period one year earlier, ejections in football declined from 39 in 2012 to 17 in 2013 – a 56.41 percent decrease. In soccer, there were 42 ejections from October 8th to the end of the 2012 regular season, compared to 34 during the same time period this season – a reduction of 19.65 percent. Cumulative totals for the fall including all play dates, show that football ejections dropped from 108 in 2012 to 71 in 2013, for a 34.26 percent decrease.

A total of nine team and six individual state champions were crowned on Saturday and Sunday as part of the KHSAA’s first-ever three-sport Fall Championship weekend. Big turnouts at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School, the Kentucky Horse Park and Valley High School made the weekend an overwhelming success as fans showed up in droves to watch the soccer, volleyball and cross country state championships.
Saturday’s festivities began with the 2013 KHSAA Cross Country State Meet at the Kentucky Horse Park. Bishop Brossart opened the day by claiming the 1A Boys’ title, edging St. Henry District by 15 points (85 to 100). Louisville Collegiate junior Matthew Bode won the Boys’ 1A Race with a time of 16:15.46. On the 1A Girls’ side, St. Henry District won its third-straight team title with 51 total points. 11/11/13- Movement of Schools in Alignment, Basketball 15th Region
At its regular meeting on Monday, October 11, the Board of Control voted to approve the unanimous request of the seven public school superintendents in the Basketball 15th region to make two alignment changes in an effort to balance the number of teams in each district within the region. The move is effective with the 2014-2015 playing seasons and will impact baseball, basketball, soccer, softball and volleyball.
The changes will be:
- In Baseball, Basketball, Volleyball and Softball, Lawrence County will move from District 57 to District 60, to be in the district with Belfry, Phelps, and Pike County Central.
- In the sports in which they participate, Piarist Academy would move into District 59 to join East Ridge, Pikeville and Shelby Valley and create a four team district thereby reducing the 58th district to four teams.

11/05/14 – Cross Country State Final Update
The officials and KHSAA staff will be on the course tomorrow and Friday preparing for Saturdays Championship. A final reminder today –
Walk throughs are not allowed until Friday at 3:30pm. Remember buses are allowed in the Alltech Arena paved lot only. Teamip apparel vendor will be set up and ready to sell on Friday as well.
On Saturday there is an event at the Alltech Arena which requires a horse crossing across the road that leads to Walt Robinson. Therefore, we will be entering the parking area through the Alltech Arena lot.
We have an experienced group to guide all cars and buses through the lot, but as you know the turnover between classes can cause the entering cars to become backed up. We ask schools to allow extra time to park AND to follow the direction of the parking attendants so that the parking line can flow smoothly.

11/06/13 – KHSAA Statement On Whitley County Runner
On Sunday, November 3, the KHSAA office was made aware of an incident regarding a number assignment at the Class 3A, Region 7 Cross Country meet on Saturday, Nov. 2. The KHSAA office was not aware of the situation at the time it occurred at the competition site. Once made aware of the situation, KHSAA Assistant Commissioner Angela Passafiume, who is the primary contact for Cross Country, contacted the meet official who was responsible for managing the meet to begin investigating the report.
According to the cross country meet official on site, the student-athlete in question and her coach made a request immediately prior to her race for a number change stating only that she “didn’t like” the bib number she had been assigned due to it being 666. The student-athlete and her coach were then reportedly informed by the official that it was too close to the start of her race to […]

Congratulations to all participants and coaches who have qualified for the 2013 State Cross Country Championship.
First, I would like to thank the eight regional host for all of their hard work and the success of the “super regional” this past Saturday.
There are several items for your review on the cross country page of the KHSAA website. The state instructions have been updated, lane assignments are now posted, course maps and directions to the Kentucky Horse Park are available, and the state meet time schedule is posted. Practice time is once again available on Friday. This is the only day that this is allowed. The times available are from 3:30 to 5:30 pm. SafetyTek will be available for medical needs.

KHSAA State High School Events Honoring Veterans At Events Closest To Veterans Day
Through the efforts of a veteran and concerned individual by the name of Robert Williams of Menlo Park, California, there is now a national movement to have every high school and college in the United States honor all veterans and active duty military at events near Veteran’s Day. This is a great way to recognize our veterans and active duty military and hopefully reinforce to all the importance of their sacrifices and the meaning of Veteran’s Day. The KHSAA is grateful to be able to participate.
For the first round of the football playoffs at home sites this weekend, each home school will be asked to request all veterans and active duty military in attendance to stand and be recognized for their contributions.

11/04/13 – Cross Country, Soccer and Volleyball Champions Crowned This Week

Soccer Championships Resume Wednesday, Thursday Night
The 2013 KHSAA Boys’ and Girls’ Soccer Championships continue Wednesday and Thursday night at Paul Laurence Dunbar, leading up to Saturday’s championship matches. Wednesday’s Boys’ Semifinal action begins with Henderson County vs. Paul Laurence Dunbar at 6 p.m., followed by Trinity (Louisville) vs. Bowling Green at 8 p.m. The Girls’ Championship picks up Thursday night with semifinal action pitting Sacred Heart against Oldham County at 6 p.m., and the defending champion Tates Creek Lady Commodores against Notre Dame at 8 p.m.
Both championship bouts will be played on Saturday, Nov. 9, with the boys’ game at 5 p.m. and the girls’ title match at 7 p.m. Live webcasts of the Semifinals and Championship games will be available at KHSAA.tv.

11/02/14 – State Cross Country Qualifiers
The Regional results from Cross Country have been posted on the KHSAA website. It is important that coaches review the school by school rosters immediately. Please contact the KHSAA at xcentry@khsaa.org with any corrections (name spellings, grade levels, etc).
For new coaches: Once a student athlete (team) is entered into the region they are automatically entered into the state meet if they qualify. Even if your team did not qualify, you may have had an individual that did qualify. Please check the link provided to see if this might be the case. It is the school by school roster that tells you if your student athletes qualified for the state meet.

11/01/13 – Fairview High School Receives Sanctions From KHSAA; Football Team Removed From Postseason Play
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: NOVEMBER 1, 2013
The Kentucky High School Athletic Association has handed down sanctions to Fairview High School for violation of Bylaw 3 (Maximum Number of Years) and Bylaw 4 (Enrollment Requirements), penalties which include the forfeiture of 19 football games over the last two seasons, including having its 2012 Class 1A State Runner-Up finish vacated, and the suspension and removal of the Fairview HS football team from the 2013 state playoffs.
“For 55 years, Fairview Schools have had an outstanding relationship with the Kentucky High School Athletic Association. Today’s ruling will not change that relationship as this incident with the ineligible player was handled with the utmost professionalism by the Commissioner and his staff,” said Fairview Independent Schools Superintendent Bill Musick. “We as a staff at Fairview Schools accept the responsibility for what has transpired.
