9/19/23- Winter Esports Online Rules Clinic for Coaches Now Available

The mandatory online KHSAA Rules Clinic for the winter sport activity of Esports is now available.  I continue to appreciate the support that you’ve given me thus far this school year after I assumed the lead manager role for Esports in our office. This clinic is required of all coaches (varsity, junior varsity, and freshman) whether or not the coach receives pay.

FOR ATHLETIC DIRECTORS
I cannot stress this enough:  though your student-athletes and coaches have to be loaded into and be active in PlayVS’ system in order to play the games, they have to be loaded into the KHSAA online roster and coaching databases to be eligible to play the games.  So please make certain all of your student-athletes and coaches are loaded into the KHSAA Online Roster System as soon as possible.

FOR COACHES
For member schools, the clinics are located on the School Log-in Page. To access the clinic, go to https://schools.khsaa.org/ and — under the section entitled Rules Clinics — click on the link that says “View Online Rules Clinics“.

SCHEDULE

• Until Oct. 26 – the clinic will be online only and may be viewed at no charge during this period through the KHSAA member school portal.
• October 27 to November 10 – the clinic will be online only and may be viewed for the makeup fee ($100) during this period.
• November 11 to November 25 – the clinic will be online only and may be viewed for the makeup fee ($200) during this period. After this time, postseason restrictions and penalties per Bylaw 27 will apply.

First Year Coaches are not required to pay the late fee, but this must be waived in advance of them taking the rules clinic by me.  Each school’s Athletic Director will need to contact me directly if this is the case.

Here are several notes about the clinic:

• Each person who views the clinic must be logged into their account in order to get credit. If taken using anyone else’s e-mail address other than your own (including your administrator’s), you will have to re-take the clinic.
• The clinic can be viewed on most PC or Mac desktops and laptops, along with many HTML5-enabled mobile devices and tablets (system requirements are listed above).
• You do not have to start and finish the module in one session.  You can exit the module at any time by clicking on the “Exit Module” link that is located on the upper left-hand corner of the presentation, or by simply closing the browser tab.  When you return to the clinic, you will be asked if you want to resume or not.
  • NOTE: Even though you do not have to watch in one sitting, you cannot simply leave the module running with a slide displayed when you are away for an extended period of time as you run the risk of not receiving credit.
• There is no certificate for online rules clinics.  For coaches, your athletic director will have full visibility of whether or not you have started and finished a module.
• The slides must be advanced one at a time, manually using the player controls.  At any time you can go back to review slides you have already viewed, but you can never skip slides you have not viewed.
• You will be presented with a few questions throughout that must be answered before you can proceed.
• If you would like to review this presentation after you have received credit, please contact me and I will send you an ‘unlocked” non-credit link which has no viewing restrictions and therefore allows you to skip ahead.

If you are a coach and have trouble logging into the system, contact your athletic director to ensure your email address is properly entered into the system and if problems persist and a fellow member of the coaching staff is unable to help you, contact the KHSAA office.
