03/27/25 – Ivan Rice, Rick Shaw Awarded First-Ever Bob White/Mike Fields Media Service Award

Ivan Rice and Rick Shaw, the first-ever recipients of the Bob White/Mike Fields Media Service Award, were honored on Thursday during the opening round of the 2025 UK HealthCare Boys’ Basketball Sweet 16® inside Rupp Arena at Central Bank Center in Lexington.
The newly instituted Bob White/Mike Fields Media Service Award is presented to an individual in recognition of a career promoting student-athletes, coaches and officials throughout the Commonwealth, as well as for devoted service to interscholastic athletics.
A native of Paris who is affectionately known as the “Doctor of Sports,” Rice has covered Paris and Bourbon County sports for the Bourbon County Citizen for over 40 years. He has been voted into several Halls of Fame for his coverage and won numerous Kentucky Press Association awards.

03/27/25 – Neil Middleton Earns NFHS State Award For Outstanding Service

After a four-decade career in Eastern Kentucky sports media, Neil Middleton has been awarded the NFHS State Award for Outstanding Service.
Starting his television career at WYMT in 1987, Middleton’s recognition comes for his contributions and media coverage to schools, coaches, players and fans throughout his storied career.
Middleton was the long-time director of the WYMT Mountain Basketball Classic and served as a board member for several organizations in Kentucky’s Appalachian region, including the Center for Rural Development, One East Kentucky, Alice Lloyd College, Eastern Kentucky PRIDE, East Kentucky Leadership Foundation, the Challenger Learning Center of Kentucky and the Kentucky Associated Press.

03/25/25 – UK HealthCare Boys’ Sweet 16® to Tip Off at Rupp Arena

The 2025 UK HealthCare Boys’ Basketball Sweet 16® will tip off its 107th installment this week inside Rupp Arena at Central Bank Center in Lexington, beginning with the first of back-to-back days of first-round matchups on Wednesday.
Wednesday will start with Region 4 champion Bowling Green (28-6) vs. Region 5 champion Adair County (30-5) at 11 a.m. ET, followed by Region 6 champion Jeffersontown (26-6) vs. Region 7 champion St. Xavier (31-2) at 1:30 p.m. in the Tigers’ first Sweet 16® appearance since 1995.

03/19/25 – NFHS Announces Cheer, Dance Rule Changes
Risk Minimization Focus of 2025-26 High School Spirit Rules Changes
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
INDIANAPOLIS – Six changes in the cheer section regarding risk minimization were among the revisions recommended by the NFHS Spirit Rules Committee at its meeting last February in Orlando, Florida. All recommended changes were subsequently approved by the NFHS Board of Directors and take effect with the 2025-26 high school spirit season.
“The committee continues to look at the risk minimization for all participants in cheer and dance activities,” said James Weaver, NFHS director of performing arts and sports and liaison to the NFHS Spirit Rules Committee. “These changes continue our ongoing progression to making this activity safer for every participant who is in cheer or dance.”

03/18/25 – NFHS Announces Soccer Playing Rule Changes
Coach Responsibility for Bench Decorum Reinforced in High School Soccer Rules Changes
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
INDIANAPOLIS – Beginning next school year, soccer head coaches may be warned, cautioned or ejected for misconduct committed by bench personnel in the team area. The increased responsibility of head coaches for team conduct highlights the 2025-26 high school soccer rules changes.
In all, six rules changes were recommended by the NFHS Soccer Rules Committee at its meeting last February in Indianapolis. All rules changes were reviewed and approved by the NFHS Board of Directors.
Rule 12-4-4 was amended to support positive bench decorum and reinforce the head coach’s responsibility for the conduct of their team and bench personnel within the team area. The new language allows officials to take action against the coach in addition to any cautions or ejections issued to the sanctioned offender.

03/15/25 – Britt Redman Earns NFHS Section 2 Spirit of Sport Award

Britt Redman, a state champion football player from Christian Academy-Louisville who is battling cancer, has been selected as the 2025 Section 2 recipient of the National High School Spirit of Sport Award by the NFHS.
The National High School Spirit of Sport Award was created by the NFHS to recognize individuals who exemplify the ideals of the spirit of sport that represent the core mission of education-based athletics.
Diagnosed with testicular cancer during the football playoffs of his junior season, Redman battled the disease to return for his senior campaign in 2024. The wide receiver helped lead the Centurions to a Class 3A state championship and helped create a foundation to support kids battling cancer.
The NFHS is divided into eight geographical sections of state high school associations. Section 2 includes Kentucky, Delaware, Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and Washington, D.C.

03/03/25 – Second Annual Indoor Track & Field State Championships Return to Louisville
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MARCH 3, 2025
The second annual KHSAA Indoor Track & Field State Championships presented by UK HealthCare are set to return to the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center in Louisville in the form of a new three-day format this week.
The Class 2A state meet will get things started on Tuesday, followed by the Class 1A meet on Wednesday and the Class 3A meet on Thursday. The first events of each day are scheduled to commence at 10:30 a.m. ET, while the final event of each day is expected to take place at approximately 3:55 p.m.
Tickets to all three days of the event are available online only at khsaatickets.org. The competition will be broadcast in its entirety live on khsaa.tv to subscribers of the NFHS Network.

2025 KHSAA State Indoor Track & Field Meet Coach Pass Allocation
Complimentary admission for Indoor Track & Field coaches will be a wristband provided in the team packet.
Coaches meeting Bylaw 25 KHSAA Coaching Requirements shall receive the following number of complimentary admission passes (these do not allow for track access).
- One to two (1-2) qualifier(s) affords a maximum of two (2) complimentary admissions;
- Three to six (3-6) qualifiers afford a maximum of three (3) complimentary admissions;
- Seven (7) to 12 qualifiers afford a maximum of four (4) complimentary admissions.
- 13-20 qualifers afford a maximum of five (5) complimentary admissions.
- 21 and above afford a maximum of six (6) complimentary admissions.
The KHSAA rosters and coaches lists were required to be submitted to Arbiter prior to the entry deadline and no further additions/corrections can be made. This list has been prepared so member schools can plan accordingly.

03/02/25 – State Indoor Track & Field Lane Assignments, Starting Heights & Final Details
The field is set for the 2025 KHSAA State Indoor Track & Field Championships presented by UK HealthCare! The championships will return to the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center in Louisville on March 4-6. Coaches need to be sure to double-check the performance list and roster by school as several changes have been made.
The KHSAA website has been updated to reflect lane assignments, competitor numbers, etc. Please be sure to check the track webpage (links also below). Additional important information for each respective class is posted.
