04/27/12 – 2012 Playing Rule Changes – Part 1 of several – Field markings

Football Blog Updates

First thing I want to talk about with this year’s rule changes (2012) is the change in restrictions on what can go on a field. In a time when our schools are struggling to find the resources to manage their athletic programs, it seemed a bit outdated that we still prohibited logos on football fields. While I am a traditionalist at heart, I really don’t think the game is impacted by a few logos and marks on the field. So now, our schools are allowed to have corporate logos and other marks on their field. The only restriction is that these CANNOT block or cover up the required marks every five yards, as well as the nine yards marks, etc. This should allow our schools to have some source of revenue generated by the markings and still not impact the management of the game..

04/27/12 – 2012 Football Intro

Football Blog Updates

OK, I hate to admit it. And most will deny it to be able to be true. I have always considered myself a fairly prolific talker, and probably a bit wordy in writing. So its interesting that Football, still my sport, is the one lagging behind in blog entries. Going to try and remedy that in the coming days with some important updates for football coaches, officials and fans.
Let me know if there is a subject you want to see as a blog topic by sending me a quick email to jtackett@khsaa.org
As time permits, I will try and answer your questions and perhaps, even expound a little (OK, the staff here would call it pontificate a little, about your subject.
Thanks!

04/27/12 – Reminder – Game Completions/Interrupted Games

Baseball Blog Updates

This is a reminder regarding interrupted games.  If a game is interrupted in tournament play or regular season play, and is subsequently to be completed, it will be reset (resumed) at the same point, same inning, same out or outs, same balls and strikes, same batter or number of batter in the batting order.  The game does not start over from the beginning.

In the event the game can not be rescheduled to be finished (resumed).  The result stands and the game counts toward the contest limit and pitching restrictions.

04/24/12 – Post Season Instructions

Tennis Blog Updates

Good morning, The sun is bright and it looks like another great day to play Tennis. I can’t believe we are getting ready for our post season tournaments. Many of you veterans know that the information for post season play ( regional and state) can be found on our web site:  http://www.khsaa.org/tennis/ . For those of you who are new to the coaching ranks, please make yourself familiar with our Tennis page and the different links to Tournament instructions and forms. You will also find helpful links to maps and the schedule of events for the State Championships. I’m excited to announce that the State Championships will have a new site for Thursday’s play. As you know on the first day of play, due to the large number of matches, we divide our tournament field by gender and have one group at UK, with the other group playing at an alternative site, then on Friday, we bring everyone to the UK complex. This year we will be using the City of Lexington’s […]

04/24/12 – Rule 4 Information

Soccer Blog Updates

I have been getting several inquires as to the “Uniform” changes for next year. First, there was a change to the rule change ( isn’t this fun) with regard to the date that it would take effect. Rule 4 reads …” with the 2013 fall season, the home team shall wear solid white jerseys and solid white socks…….. In last years rules clinic I had several slides ( with notes) covering the Uniform Rules. I would suggest that you download the slides from my PowerPoint, and keep them for your reference, when it comes time to order new kits.   http://www.khsaa.org/soccer/nfhssocceruniformshinguardrequirements.ppt.

04/18/12 Running Clock Provision Approved by Board of Control

Basketball Blog Updates

The KHSAA Board of Control has approved a running clock provision for basketball. The rule will require a running clock to be used in all levels of high school basketball if a point differential of 35 points or more is reached after halftime. The clock will be stopped only for a charged time-out, for injury/blood or disqualification, and immediately following the reporting of a foul if free throws are to be administered.
The specifics on how officials are to administer this new rule will be addressed in the near future.
The mercy rule/running clock provision has been added to other sports over the past years including football and soccer.

Final Rule wording –

Approve the adoption of a running clock rule at all levels of basketball (freshman, JV, Varsity) when one team is ahead by 35 or more points after halftime.

The clock shall be stopped only for a charged time-out, an injury/blood or disqualification, […]

04/17/12 – KHSAA Revised State Championship Format

Soccer Blog Updates

The Board of Control voted yesterday to change the Post Season Tournament format. I’m very excited about this change. What will it mean to you? First, some of you will see new teams in your district and Regional tournaments (as a result of the previous re-alignment) after you have advanced through the region, the next step will be the “Semi-State” game that will be played at eight different sites. This is, in effect, our first round of the Sweet-Sixteen tournament for Soccer. Many of us believe that in the past, the State Championship tournament was unfairly thought of as just a four team tournament. I want each of the 16 Regional Champions to realize that regardless of the outcome of the next game that they play, their team has made it to the “State Championships”. The eight winners of the Semi-State game will advance to the quarter-finals here in Lexington. The match ups for this […]

04/2/12 First Ever Ebonite/KHSAA State Championship

Bowling Blog Updates

Just two short weeks ago marked the first ever bowling Ebonite/KHSAA sanctioned State Bowling Tournament for the schools in Kentucky.  It has been an exciting year for schools with 75 schools adding bowling to their school sports and activities list.

The tournament was held at the Executive Strike and Spare Center in Louisville.  The center was a great venue for players and fans of the event.  The teams competition was the first tournament on Thursday with the boys going first in the morning.  Scott County was victorious as they defeated Fern Creek in the final match.  The girls kicked off the afternoon with the Pleasure Ridge Park Panthers wrapping up the championship against Bryan Station.

Fridays singles tournament was just as exciting with 32 girls and 32 boys competing for the top 8 spots. Congratulations goes to Tori Doyle and Brandon Hatton, both from Scott County who took home […]

04/2/12 Welcome

Track and Field Blog Updates

Hello all – We have had some really great weather for the track and field season.  We hope that this good fortune continues as we approach the warmer days.  Please remember that as of April 15 it is a requirement to begin your heat index recordings.   I recently sent out a rules clarification for Tournament Rule (Track and Field – p. 114 of the KHSAA handbook) – XI – C – 8:  BODY MARKINGS / TATTOOS – A permanent tattoo that is not objectionable in the judgement of an of?cial, would be allowed. A permanent tattoo that is objectionable in its content or form shall be covered. Anything non permanent including tattoos, face paint, etc. would not be legal if visible on any part of the body as it would be excessive body decoration.
We have had several questions about hair color and the legality of nontraditional colors (i.e. blue, green, pink).  After further review of the […]
