2012 KHSAA State Tennis Tournaments UK Boone/Downing Tennis Center and Shillito Park May 17-19 NO PETS ALLOWED!!!05/15/12 – Last Minute State Notes
The seed meeting went well and I want to thank those Regional representatives who traveled to Lexington yesterday to help “their kids” get a shot at a seed. Their work can be found on the State Tennis page http://www.khsaa.org/tennis/2012/index.html . I would like to point out some last minute items for you to keep in mind. First, we no longer require a coaches meeting on the Wednesday night before we begin. You will need to check in with either Butch Cope (at Shillito) or myself (at UK) to obtain your coaches credentials. You will sign in and be given your wrist band that will be recognized by the USTA official as being an authorized coach. It will also gain you free admission on both Friday and Saturday. Remember, you must WEAR THE ARMBAND AT ALL TIMES. Don’t worry; they are made of the same stuff (tyvek) that they wrap […]5/14/12 – NFHS Libero Uniform Changes – 2016
Here’s an update on the NFHS Libero Uniform Rule Change effective 2016. This will be shared in the NFHS/KHSAA Volleyball Rules Clinic this fall as well.
From the NFHS:
The new volleyball uniform requirements for a solid-colored uniform top and the implementation date of July 1, 2016, are outlined in Rule 4-2-2-NOTE of the 2012-13 NFHS Volleyball Rules Book. There likely are schools in your state that are purchasing uniforms for next season that will still be used in 2016 and, therefore, must meet the new rule. To assist the state associations in working with the schools to purchase legal uniforms, you may go to the following link (http://www.nfhs.org/Volleyball/) for detailed information regarding the solid-colored uniform top.
5/14/12 – 2012-13 Scoring/Warm-Up
To kick off the Volleyball blog ….I wanted to again share the changes for Volleyball approved by the KHSAA Board of Control back in January. While this was sent out to Principals, Athletic Directors, Coaches and Assigners …I have gotten a few questions so hopefully this will assist you. Here is what was approved. We will review this in the Rules Clinic as well.
Regular Season Varsity Play – Standard format will be best 3 of 5 sets, rally scoring, with the fifth set being to 15 per the NFHS Rules Book. Individual contests, by advance mutual agreement of the competing schools, may be played in best 2 of 3 sets. Member schools may agree in advance during regular season tournaments, on alternate scoring formats. In all cases, whatever format is used, each match shall count as one against the overall limit of matches contained in Bylaw 25.
Regular Season Junior Varsity Play – […]
5/14/12 – Annual Participation List Due May 30
The KHSAA has completed the final development of the electronic participation list submission. This task, which used to take hours for some to compile and is required of each school each year, should just be a couple of clicks away for all of our schools with the exception of the eight to ten who only enroll one sex and therefore haven’t had the “pleasure” of completing the Title IX reports. The reports cannot be submitted manually and must be submitted using the online system.
For those who have completed and submitted all elements of the Title IX report, your data may need a final review, especially related to cheer, and then you should be perfectly ready to go. From our experience with the beta testers, there were some who didn’t keep a good cheer roster during the year […]

Team awards and special awards will still be made inside the stadium after the completion of all events. Results – Results for coaches will be posted on the wall beside the trainers tent in tent city (on the field hockey). Results for fans will be available online only and through the public address system. Coaches please do not crowd the press box for results.
Volunteers – We are in need of volunteers to help with both running and field events. If your school has students athletes that did not qualify for state and are willing to volunteer, please notify […]
05/11/12 – Officials Advanced Camp 2012
Today’s Blog is geared towards our officials. Please take time to mark your calendars for this year’s Referee’s camp! The Advanced Camp for Soccer referees will again be held in conjunction with the Bluegrass State Games. We will be taking applications for this camp beginning today. Camp is scheduled for July 27 & 28 and will cost $65 (officials will be compensated for each match officiated by the BGSG). As in the past, participants will be housed in a dorm on the UK campus at no cost. Along with an in-house KHSAA rule’s clinic, the camp will feature classroom instruction and each referee will be assessed on each match officiated. Just as a reminder, those of you who wish to be eligible for post season assignments are required to have attended the advanced camp once every 4 years. If you haven’t participated in the camp since 2008, you […]05/11/12 – Roster Reminder
Coaches ….your rosters should have already been entered through the KHSAA website. This serves as a listing of those that would be eligible to participate for you throughout the entire postseason. 05/09/12 – State Instructions
I know that you are busy making plans for your teams trip to the State Championships here in Lexington. I want to remind you to take a close look at the State Tournament Instructions that can be found on our Tennis page. In there you will find several things that must be done prior to the beginning of the Championships. One example of an action item for you to take care of prior to coming to Lexington is getting your Coaching credentials. I have cut and pasted that section for your attention: Who Can Coach? In prior years a decision was made to allow enough coaches to be on site for each participant/team that is involved. For instance, if a school has one girls’ participant in singles competing at Shillito and one girls’ doubles team participating at Shillito, we will allow two coaches passes for that team. If, for example, a school has two girls’ singles players participating and two doubles teams participating, […]05/09/12 – Update on New Bass Fishing Championship
Ahoy Mates! Since the announcement in February that we were sponsoring a bass fishing championship, the questions have rolled in fast and furious. We have worked with the great folks at FLW, as well as very helpful reps of BASS Federation Nation and other groups to try and ensure that the championship is done in a manner that will stir excitement for all, ensure safety for all competitors, a participation opportunity for students, not effect those already participating in fishing activities, and promote an awareness of the great natural resources we have available. With that in mind, this is the first of a series of posts as we work toward implementation of our first championship in April of 2013. As more becomes available, we will post both here and online on our web site.
Thanks!!

We will add this to our FAQ list.

05/06/12 Ebonite/KHSAA State Tournament Dates Set for 2012-2113
After a very successful and rewarding championship in 2012, the KHSAA is excited to announce that the 2012-2013 Ebonite/KHSAA State Championship will return to Lousiville’s Executive Strike and Spare. The singles tournament will take place on Thursday, February 7 and the team championships on Friday, February 8.
Thank to all of the regional managers, coaches statewide, and bowling centers for all of your hard work and cooperation.
05/01/12 – Reminder about 2013 and 2014 scheduling
Just a reminder to all football schools.
Have received four or five phone calls this week about scheduling for future years. Keep in mind the complete tournament and alignment rules are at http://www.khsaa.org/handbook/tournamentrules/fbtournamentrules.pdf on the KHSAA web site.
While it may seem advantageous to jump up and start scheduling for 2013, you are doing so at your own risk. As soon as second month enrollment numbers are received for the 2012-2013 school year for our new schools or those tremendously impacted by recent consolidations (Nelson County, Thomas Nelson, South Warren, Greenwood, Warren Central, Shelby County and Collins), we will be able to more accurately tell schools if anyone will be adjusting classes for 2013 based on enrollment. So there is a real possibility that at least one school will have to adjusting, just based simply on the law of averages.
Please understand if you sign contracts now, you will be liable for any contract […]
05/01/12 – Assistant Coaches
Now that we are less than a week from the beginning of the post season, let me take this opportunity to remind you that any individual who wishes to “coach” in the post season must be recognized as a Coach by the School they are representing. It is easy for a tournament manager to look up who the Head coach is, they simply have to go to our website and look in the “coach/administrator listings” http://www.khsaa.org/publiccoaches.html or the “Member School Directory” http://www.khsaa.org/directory/ What causes a problem is verification of the “assistant” coaches. We cannot waive the KHSAA Bylaw 27 requirement regarding the qualifications for high school coaches (i.e. Coaching Education Course requirement, Medical Symposium requirement, 64 College Credit Hours requirement, First Aid/CPR requirements, and others in Bylaw 27). If you are bringing “Assistant” coaches with you to […]05/01/12 State Track Meet Hotel and Sponsor
