04/30/14 – Spring Sports Championship Media Credentials
The KHSAA’s online media credentialing system for the Spring Sports Championships is now live. Media members can visit credentials.khsaa.org to apply for credentials online.
Credentials to each KHSAA state championship event are issued by the KHSAA to working members of the media that regularly cover high school athletics. Credentials must be requested prior to the established deadline for each sport through the online credentialing system (credentials.khsaa.org).
Credentials should be requested by the sports editor/director for all members of his/her organization needing to attend an event. Credentials for freelance photographers and stringers must be requested by the sports editor/director at the outlet the freelancer will be representing. No credentials will be issued outside of the online credentialing system. The KHSAA reserves the right to limit the quantity of credentials issued to media outlets when space is at a premium.
Failure to adhere to the KHSAA policies and guidelines, […]
04/30/14 – April 2014 Board of Control Meeting Review
The following is a review of the items discussed at the April KHSAA Board of Control Meeting and the status of those issues. The Board meets six times per year, and each time, the membership will be updated as far as actions by the Board. While many of them attempt to communicate with you on a regular basis, I also want the schools informed of a consistent summary. That presentation was followed by a presentation from the iHigh staff with a report on external corporate sales. The Board then recessed to conduct committee meetings.

04/28/14 – Clarification on Last Date for Track Meets Counting Toward Postseason Requirement
This blog has been updated as of 4/28/14 at 4:07pm – The correction is highlighted below.
Allowing two weeks to host the regional track meets has exposed a piece in the regional instructions that needs to be clarified for this season and future years.
A meet shall count toward the 4 meet requirement as long as it occurs on the last day before the regional and results are posted to the milesplit.com website. Competition rules do allow for meets to be held and count toward the 4 meet minimum requirement after the entry deadline, but those times or marks will not count for seeding purposes.
For example: If your school’s regional meet is to take place on Saturday, May 10th, the last day to count a meet toward the requirement of four meets for regional competition is Friday, May 9th, but any meets held after Tuesday, May 6th cannot be […]
04/28/14 – Arbiter Reports Emailing Issue with Assigners who use Yahoo or AOL
Officials and Assigners: The KHSAA received this email from Arbiter. We wanted to make sure that you are aware of the situation.
EMAIL:
We are currently experience higher rates of email delivery failure for assigners using Yahoo or AOL email addresses due to recent policy changes that these two providers have implemented. The policy they have adopted is called DMARC Rejection. Basically, they are no longer letting non-Yahoo or non-AOL servers, send in their clients’ behalves. Unfortunately, this includes our servers and any other website that was sending in behalf of AOL and Yahoo clients. Yahoo began this policy on April 11thand AOL on April 22nd. It is our belief that many others may follow suit. Here are a couple of articles on the policy changes:

04/15/14 – Middle School Regulation-Repeating Students, Age
As part of its required charge, the Middle School Advisory Committee has recommended the change below to the Kentucky Board of Education. The change was approved through two readings of the Kentucky Board of Education, and is slated for final consideration by the General Assembly (Administrative Regulations Review Subcommittee) in June, 2014.
Below is the text of the relevant portion of the regulation. It is important to note that the regulation change has a phase-in date in 2015-2016, however the regulation is not final until approved by the Kentucky General Assembly through its committees.
(7) Beginning with the 2015-2016 school year and thereafter, require that no student enrolled initially in grade (5) through grade (8) during the 2015-2016 school year or thereafter who is repeating a grade for any reason be eligible to compete in interscholastic competition involving students enrolled in grades six (6) through eight (8) while repeating a grade;
04/16/14 – Scheduling Grid for 2015-2018, Week 0
Because of the scheduling moratorium, the scheduling grid for 2015-2018 was not originally included in the material released yesterday. It is imperative that you remember that because changes could still be made to the alignment before it is adopted, that you not sign contracts for games to be played 2015 and beyond. These changes could result from the feedback requested of the membership and related responses considered by the Board of Control at its May meeting.
However, several schools have indicated a desire to conduct tentative scheduling meetings in the next few weeks. Therefore, the tentative scheduling grid for 2015-2018 has been posted on the page with the other realignment information. Go to www.khsaa.org, click on Sports/Activities, Football, Football Alignment, Realignment Information, 2015-2018 Alignment/Realignment Information, Football General Realignment 2015-2018.
Several have also questioned whether Week 0 will be available during the next realignment period. As of now, there has been no proposal passed by […]
04/15/14 – Board of Control Approves Addition of Field Hockey
The Board of Control approved the addition of Field Hockey as a KHSAA sanctioned sport for the fall of the 2014-2015 school year. Though the sport has been played in Jefferson County for over 50 years and in Oldham County for most of the past 10 years, the sport will be relatively new to the rest of the state.
The addition of field hockey meets the needs of the schools currently participating, as well as the schools that responded to the triennial survey that are interested in adding the sport. The current structure will marry nicely to the KHSAA guidelines and rules, as the current schools have already applied most of the KHSAA bylaws. Bylaw 6 is one of the bylaws that will not apply to field hockey until the 2015-2016 school year as a year of transition is needed.
Field hockey is a female-only sport and requires the basic facilities and equipment to play: field […]
04/15/14 – Board of Control Adds Field Hockey For 2014-15; Approves Football Alignment Draft for 2015-18
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 15, 2014

The addition of field hockey as a female-only team sport, brings the Association’s total number of sports offered to 13 beginning in the fall of 2014, with four additional sport-activities. The Association will work in the coming months to select a site for the 2014 field hockey championship, and put the infrastructure in place for field hockey to be an officially-sponsored KHSAA sport.
The Board approved a draft of the football alignment for the 2015-18 seasons, which was configured after member schools were given the opportunity to declare their desire to “play up” in classification. The […]

Later this week, the balance of the reporting mechanisms will be released regarding this year’s Title IX and participation reports. These reports are required of ALL KHSAA member schools annually. There are two important reminders and items schools may be working on in advance of the final report release which will greatly expedite the completion of the required work.
ROSTER REVIEW
Though there is a formal and technical part of roster review as a component of the reports, a minor revision has been made in the menuing system that can help you maintain your data on an ongoing basis, and not have to do everything at the last minute.
On the school login menu, under the heading “Student Athlete Rosters”, and the command that says “Maintain Specific Team Rosters”, the code has been revised to clearly show you teams that need addressing. IMPORTANT NOTE: If you have a team in a sport and a level, […]
04/07/14 – Positive Changes on the Catastrophic Insurance Front
As most of you who are involved in purchasing athletic insurance for districts or schools are aware, the market remains very tough for this specialized type of coverage. For more than 30 years, the most visible benefit to membership in the KHSAA has been the Catastrophic Insurance that is provided to all member schools and funded by the membership dues. As a matter of fact in recent years, the premiums for insurance paid by the Association total almost exactly the same as the total dues received, making it a smart volume purchase for the membership. This excess insurance policy currently has a deductible of $25,000, and each student is required to have basic coverage up to that deductible in order to be eligible to play sports and sports activities per an order of the Kentucky Board of Education approximately twenty years ago.
We are pleased to report that our broker, RJ (Bob) Roberts out if […]

03/31/14 – Important Survey Available Concerning Swimming Facilities
It has been nearly twenty years since a complete facility inventory/assessment has been conducted in our state regarding competitive swimming pools and available resources for high school competitions. As swimming continues to grow, it is important that we have accurately identified the location of all of the competitive swimming facilities available to KHSAA member schools.
With that in mind, we are asking one person from each school to complete the online survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/20132014swimdive on or before Monday, April 21, 2014. The data will be used for future research into regional site selection, alignment of teams and the maintenance and growth of the sport.
If you have questions regarding the survey, please contact Assistant Commissioner Darren Bilberry at the KHSAA.
