07/31/15 – Reminder to Update School Coach/Roster Information

Athletic Department Blog Updates

As we approach the start of the sports seasons, it is critical that all schools have coaching lists and information up to date, as well as competition rosters. A roster, including coaches names and a valid playing roster, must be entered prior to any contest being played, and no athlete is eligible to play in a scrimmage or contest who is not listed on the current online school roster.

All content in the roster system is accessible solely through the school login subdomain at http://schools.khsaa.org/. On that page are invaluable video links to assist with “how to” of the subdomain.

New this year is a MUCH more streamlined method of editing your non-coach data. By school request, this has become more of a “fill in the blank” portal so that you can be sure and enter the required personnel. The link is located at http://schools.khsaa.org/admin_personnel/. A few important notes:

  • If a particular position is in Red, […]

07/31/15 – Reminder about Heat Index as Full Gear FB Practice Begins

Football Blog Updates

With tomorrow being the first permissible day for full gear football practice, this notice is important to help minimize risk for the coaches and competitors. While all efforts have been made to ensure gradual phasing in of equipment to allow for proper acclimatization and acclimation, it remains possible that many athletes are not properly acclimatized to the wearing of full gear in hot weather, in spite of practicing the required number of days.

Out of an abundance of caution, and respect for the safety of the competitors and coaches, as well as game officials in scrimmage situations, schools are reminded that activity reduction or cessation is mandatory at certain levels of heat index at the local venue. Once scrimmages begin over the next couple of weeks, game officials will be encouraged to take the NFHS permissible heat time-outs during each quarter or at the minimum, every 30 minutes of action.

Football Coaches and Officials must remember that […]

07/31/15 – Heat Index Reminder for Soccer

Soccer Blog Updates

With the temperatures continuing into the nineties this week, we would like to remind everyone of the Heat Index guidelines for Soccer. Please review the KMA/KHSAA Heat Index Chart for determining Reduction in Activity located at: http://khsaa.org/sportsmedicine/heat/heatindexchartcolor.pdf. These guidelines shall be adhered to with no exceptions.

Specifically, in games where the heat index has been determined to be 95 or higher, play will stop at the next natural stoppage after the 20 minute mark of each half of play to allow student-athletes and officials to take a mandatory 10-minute heat water break. The restart will remain the same as it normally would have occurred. Contest officials will get heat index information from game management before the start of the contest and will then implement the timeout procedures by notifying the coaches at the required pre-game meeting. Under NO circumstances, shall play continue past the 30 minute mark without the stoppage.

Every person who has ever served on the staff or Board of Control of the Association, along with the many workers, volunteers and constituents who came into contact with him on a daily basis, was forever positively changed by his attitude and infectious smile. The entire KHSAA family extends its deepest sympathy to his daughter Diane (J. Michael Griffitt), son John Allan, grandson Joseph and granddaughter Jessica, and the entire extended family.

He was 82, having celebrated his birthday in May and was the widower of Billie Carol Ginn. Born […]

07/23/15 – Football Officials Mechanics Change/Clarification; FBZ Clarification

Football Blog Updates

For the 2015 football season, there is a major change in on-field mechanics for officials in four- and five-person coverage, and a reminder about the changes for 2014 kickoff change. At this time, these are the only known mechanics clarification and all officials are expected to otherwise apply only the mechanics in the NFHS Football Officials Manual.

FREE KICK MECHANICS

The Back Judge in a five-person crew (page 27, V, B, 6) is supposed to move to the center of the field after the kick goes downfield. This is important in order to get the Back Judge in his/her normal position as the return begins.

PAT/FG COVERAGE

There has been no change on the state five-person mechanics on PAT/FG (inside 15-yard line). The umpire goes under with the Back Judge, Wing officials remain in position.

LINESMAN/LINE JUDGE MECHANICS

Beginning with the 2015 season, the Linesman and Line Judge will be changing sides of the field at halftime for all games […]

2015-2016 News Releases

THIS NOTICE HAS BEEN SUPERSEDED BY FURTHER NOTICES AND IS NOT VALID FOR THE 2016 SEASON AND BEYOND

With the dead period ending and most of football coaches starting into fall workouts at various times in the coming days, it is timely to remind each of you of the major changes made in football practice and competition rules.

FORMS TO MONITOR COMPLIANCE

From the post on May 18, the forms and their usage. Complete details at http://khsaa.org/051815-board-of-control-approves-compliance-forms-for-football-revisions/.
