FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: FEB. 19, 2025

The KHSAA Board of Control conducted its fifth regularly scheduled meeting of the 2024-25 academic year on Wednesday in Lexington, approving the authorization for the Commissioner to work with staff to plan potential site adjustments to state championship events in the sports of baseball, tennis and swimming & diving due to facility schedule or construction conflicts.

With the threat of potential inclement weather forecasted across the state this weekend, it was necessary to adjust the format and site schedule for the 2025 KHSAA Swimming & Diving State Championships at the Lancaster Aquatic Center on the University of Kentucky campus in Lexington.

“Safety of the student-athletes, coaches, families and others has to always be a paramount concern,” said Commissioner Julian Tackett. “With the current storm, coupled with transportation issues around last weekend’s flooding and the prospect for additional bad weather tonight, we will condense our three-day state swimming & diving competition to two days and have notified the participating schools. These schedule changes are never easy or lightly taken, but it is best to push back the start to Friday and allow for districts and schools to make decisions about travel after this next round of weather is complete.”

“Nearly the entire Board was present for today’s meeting despite the presently challenging travel conditions, which is an indication of each member’s commitment to tackling these issues,” Tackett said. “For that, we are very grateful.”

The Board also accepted a conceptual first reading of the continued development of proposals for the Annual Meeting regarding Bylaw 6, Transfer Rule, and Bylaw 7, Foreign Exchange Students. The Board will continue its discussion of a formal proposal for the September membership meeting at its next meeting in May.

Additionally, the Board reviewed and accepted the following reports:

  • The status of current legislative sessions of items impacting the KHSAA, as well as other actions at the state and federal level;
  • A preliminary discussion of necessary clarifications to the KHSAA Handbook handbook regarding Bylaws 6, 7 and 10;
  • Status reports in each of the ongoing and future sports and sport-activities;
  • The selection of the Dawahares/KHSAA Hall of Fame Class of 2025;
  • The status of Bowling Green in compliance with the June 2022 agreed order; and
  • An officials division update.
