09/19/25 – Final Reminder: Fall ’25 Esports Registration ends TONIGHT & Important Update on League of Legends
As mentioned in front of our member schools that were in Lexington yesterday, 9/18, at our Annual Meeting of Schools, Registration for the Fall ’25 Esports Season ends tonight at 11:59 PM League time.
If teams do not make it in today, they will not be able to participate in this Fall Season.(full season details and reminders can be found at the following link:https://khsaa.org/09-15-25-khsaa-playvs-fall-2025-esports-registration-deadline-is-friday-9-19/)
Important Update on the Status of League of Legends for this Fall
At this time, we only have 9 teams statewide enrolled in League of Legends, which is well below the 20-team limit for a balanced season.
This probably isn’t a surprise to many, as it isn’t a Kentucky-specific issue, but part of the broader trend we’ve seen with League of Legends declining in popularity across the country.
To give students a better experience, if we do not get to the minimum of 20 today, we will have […]
09/18/25 – Annual meeting of the KHSAA Delegate Assembly Held in Lexington
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: SEPT. 18, 2025
The annual meeting of the KHSAA was held on Thursday afternoon at the Central Bank Center in Lexington. The KHSAA Delegate Assembly voted 168-52 in favor of Bylaw 6 allowing athletes who have participated in 20% or less of games played to transfer to another school with no penalty. The current rule applies the one-year penalty for ineligibility with any varsity participation without a minimum. The Delegate Assembly is composed of one representative of the 291 member schools with 244 of those schools represented at this year’s meeting.
Additionally, the Delegate Assembly voted 204-13 on Bylaw 7 which keeps foreign exchange and other foreign students, to clarify eligibility for F-1 VISA students staying multiple years, effective with those placed initially during the 2026-27 school year
KHSAA Commissioner Julian Tackett said, “We are always pleased when our membership actively is involved in the management of what they do everyday. This […]

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: SEPT. 17, 2025
The KHSAA Board of Control conducted its second regularly scheduled meeting of the 2025-26 academic year on Wednesday, which will continue on Thursday in Lexington, with the Board of Control voting 13-5 to adopt a shot clock for boys and girls varsity basketball beginning in the 2027-28 high school season.
Thirty-two state associations throughout the country currently use a shot clock in some manner, and Kentucky will implement the use of a 35-second shot clock in two years. KHSAA member schools can continue getting accustomed to a shot clock for the 2025-2026, but it will not be used in postseason until 2028.
The Louisville Invitational Tournament and several other events experimented with a 35-second shot clock last season, and the reps from Louisville said it went off without any problems.
It has long been an area of discussion throughout the Commonwealth, with the board’s final decision backed by several members […]

09/04/25 – Reminder about Shortened and Interrupted Football Games
After being blessed with fantastic weather for the first two playing weeks, the forecast for this weekend leads to again issuing this reminder around football contests. This is particularly important given the vast amount of turnover in athletic administrators and coaches; a reminder about the Competition Rules is in order for Football. Interrupted games are not new and have a defined procedure for football, which has not changed in several years.
Within the NFHS football playing rules, in an emergency (such as inclement weather where advisories are placed against travel or to seek shelter), teams can mutually agree to shorten any remaining period or terminate the game at any point after the game has begun. If such termination is mutually agreed to, the game shall be recorded as the current score, and the game cannot be replaced on the schedule.
Probably the main point to keep in mind, “All involved shall remember that this situation […]
