FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: July 19, 2018

The Kentucky High School Athletic Association filled a newly created position on its staff this week with the hiring of Dan White as its Event Management Specialist. White comes to the KHSAA from the University of Pikeville, where he spent the last five years as UPIKE’s Assistant Athletic Director/Sports Information Director.

“Dan is a rising star in athletics administration and has demonstrated his commitment to quality events and support for student-athletes while also staying on the cutting edge in regards to getting the message out about the values of interscholastic athletics,” said KHSAA Commissioner Julian Tackett. “He will be a great addition to our team as we continue to put on the best possible events for students in our schools. His personality will mesh well, not only with our current staff, but with representatives of our schools and the legion of event workers and contest officials who support high school sports every day.”

A native of Lawrenceburg, Ky., White handled the publicity, statistics, game management, website management and archives, and media requests for a department of 22 sports as the SID at UPIKE. He implemented live streaming of UPIKE events on Facebook, Twitter and LiveStream, while helping to grow UPIKE’s social media presence, which now ranks near the top of the NAIA in reach. In his Assistant AD role, White assisted with the hiring of coaches and compliance, and compiled academic progress for awards among various other duties. In addition, White was instrumental in helping bring the MSC Basketball Tournament to Pikeville, serving as event manager alongside the conference staff.

“I want to thank Commissioner Julian Tackett for allowing me to fulfill a lifelong dream to work for the KHSAA. I’ve spent nine great years working at the small-college level in Kentucky, but the time was right to move into the high school ranks,” said White. “The KHSAA has meant so much to me from competing, to also being a fan. I look forward to working with administrators and coaches all across the state to benefit the experiences of the high-school athlete.”

Prior to Pikeville, White spent three years at Lindsey Wilson College (2010-13), where he became the school’s first full-time Assistant SID after serving one year (2009-10) as a graduate assistant in the sports information department. White graduated from the University of Louisville in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in sports administration and a minor in communication. He spent three years (2005-08) as a student assistant with UofL’s sports information department, where he served as the men’s soccer contact for its 2007 NCAA and BIG EAST Tournament appearances. White spent the 2008-09 season as a communications assistant at the BIG EAST Conference, where he was the primary contact for several Olympic sports and the tertiary contact for men’s basketball and football.

In his role at the KHSAA, White will report directly to the Commissioner, while assisting all members of the executive staff with preparations and logistics for the Association’s 19 championship events. Part of his duties will include page layout for all KHSAA instructions related to managing the district, region, semi-state, and state championship events to include directives for managers, participating teams, workers and officials. White, whose first day at the Association will be Aug. 1, will also be responsible for the compilation of material and records retention for district/region site selections and seeding plans, as well as the logistical arrangements for contest officials and championship workers at all state events.
