06/06/14 – Statement on Ending of Ashland Blazer-Johnson Central Softball Game
During the 7th inning of game 14 of the Worth/KHSAA State Softball Tournament (a consolation bracket elimination contest) a judgement call was made by the umpiring crew which in hindsight, and upon postgame review by the KHSAA staff, was in error. The situation occurred when Johnson Central’s Rachelle Fairchild hit an apparent game-winning home run, but following a brief conference, the crew of officials declared that the hit was a ground rule double instead of the game-winning home run.
“Following today’s game between Ashland Blazer and Johnson Central, KHSAA staff reviewed news footage of the at-bat which was ruled a ground rule double in the seventh inning. With the benefit of slow motion, high definition video, it is clear that the ball left the park on the fly, and a home run should have been ruled,” said KHSAA Commissioner Julian Tackett. “Unfortunately, our umpires don’t have technical access to slow motion, high definition video during […]

With that in mind, we are asking one person from each school to complete the online survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/20132014swimdive on or before Monday, April 21, 2014. The data will be used for future research into regional site selection, alignment of teams and the maintenance and growth of the sport.

01/31/14 – Commissioner’s Comments on Injunctive Release Issued Friday In Franklin County
“We have received the restraining order issued by the Franklin Circuit Court, and will adhere to its requirements. That said, it is likely not possible for me to disagree more with the findings of the court in its order. While it is inappropriate for this office to discuss the specific circumstances related to the matters of these students due to privacy concerns, we look forward to further judicial review and consideration about this matter. Clearly, situations such as this were intended to be regulated and restricted when the member schools passed the rules governing eligibility, and when those rules were approved by the Kentucky Board of Education and the Kentucky General Assembly. We will vigorously move forward with efforts related to these cases.”

“The KHSAA has received information relative to alleged unsporting acts and comments made by representatives of the girls’ basketball team at Sayre High School following its game with Leslie County High School on Wednesday. As a sanctioned game under the limitation of seasons of the KHSAA, this potential violation of KHSAA Bylaw 15 would involve the Association. However, after our initial review and conversation with representatives of Sayre, we are confident that the administration of both schools and school systems are aggressively reviewing the incident and until we have final reports of their actions, will allow the process to continue at the local school level.”

The Board also approved a motion to allow teams to voluntarily play into a higher class, with the only restriction being that the school in question shall remain in the class for the entire four-year period. All requests must be made prior to the set deadline before district boundaries are established. 07/22/13 – Reminder about Adding Shoulder Pads to Helmet as allowable gear for Football
Case BL-23-19- When does contact football practice begin?
The first date of contact practice is based on the first full day of classes for the student body in each school. Contact practice begins seven days prior to the first official day (which is the first day prior to students). The following is the calendar for the next two years. The shoulder pad column is the date with shoulder pads can be added to helmet IF the weekend days are not used for any type of practice. Be mindful that if non-contact simulations are held (i.e. 7/24 in 2013), then no practice can be held. As an example, in 2013, if the first full pad practice is July 29, but the school chooses to practice on 7/27 (any type of practice), then the shoulder pads couldn’t be worn until 7/25.

Nationally, the program distributed more than $1 million in profits in the first year. […]
