05/15/12 – Last Minute State Notes

May 15, 2012 Tennis Blog Updates

PrintThe seed meeting went well and I want to thank those Regional representatives who traveled to Lexington yesterday to help “their kids” get a shot at a seed. Their work can be found on the State Tennis page http://www.khsaa.org/tennis/2012/index.html . I would like to point out some last minute items for you to keep in mind. First, we no longer require a coaches meeting on the Wednesday night before we begin. You will need to check in with either Butch Cope (at Shillito) or myself (at UK) to obtain your coaches credentials. You will sign in and be given your wrist band that will be recognized by the USTA official as being an authorized coach. It will also gain you free admission on both Friday and Saturday. Remember, you must WEAR THE ARMBAND AT ALL TIMES. Don’t worry; they are made of the same stuff (tyvek) that they wrap houses in for protection, so it is not only water proof, it will outlast us all. If you lose it, you will need to purchase a replacement. Second, you will be given a set of brackets and “Participant patches”. The “Patches” are a really nice thing that we have done at our other State Championships and have received very positive feedback on. It is an embroidered patch that the Student/athletes can put on their lettermen’s jackets or put in a scrap book. All you need to do, is tell us how many of your student/athletes qualified for State and we will give those to you, so you can distribute. For admission on Friday and Saturday, the student athletes that enter with you will of course gain free admission. Those participants that may have been eliminated on Thursday, but want to come and support friends will need to check in at the participant check in tent at UK, there, they will sign in and receive an armband for that days admission. Don’t forget your school buses will need to park at the UK Football Stadium and those buses at Shillito need to park in the large parking lot next to the Baseball complex. The Park police will not allow people to park on the main roads, there is plenty of parking in several lots, look at this google earth map for assistance with the site; http://www.khsaa.org/tennis/shillitoparkmap.pdf.
